this is totally a post from someone who is trying to hedge their bets about a possibly-shitty significant other, right? if they wrote "I am not sure I can trust my SO, can I leave them off the lease and evict them via lawyer if things get heated?" it'd be met with "just leave them, this is too complicated"
but if you pretend the situation already happened and post from the other viewpoint to try to draw out legal possibilities..

in most states when you sublet with a month to month tenant, you don't get to just change the locks after the notification period has expired, you still have to file a complaint in court to properly evict them.
