So I quite enjoyed this, but I think my biggest problem is the extent it lends itself to the kind of "X meets Y" description the thread title exemplifies. The things you can compare it to are countless (pretty much every Spielberg/Spielberg affiliated movie of the 70s/80s, Twin Peaks, John Carpenter, Stephen King, etc.), to the point where I think that's the point - that is, I don't think it's making its claim on originality, but is trying to do something really good in the spirit of the latter, which it does well, even as nostalgic pastiche. I dunno, I found that it got hard not to pick it apart as it went on ("oh, now they're incorporating Goonies, now they're incorporating Jaws, now they're incorporating Poltergeist).

Man, I just totally wasted an fp. If only I'd scrolled down a little first!
