Just warming the thread up for my SE England brothers and sisters.

I was off sick y/day and honestly should probably have gone back in today but the mini-heatwave forecast was a big factor in deciding not to attempt it

(the office gets like an oven and as there was a chance my head would also feel like an oven I didn't want to combine the two)

there were a few gorgeous days recently that felt so amazing and now it's back to this misery

I walked about 2 miles outside in the DC region today, mostly on sidewalks next to major roads so bereft of shade, all so I could dump off $25 of change into a fucking Coinstar so I could get $22 and some junk in return. Long story? No, just stupid.

the president of my university just authorized all personnel to leave work by 16:00 today because of the dumb Parisian heat (high of 32 today, 11 degrees above normal). I was going to give my first class of the year, but now I can roast at home instead.

X-post, I wore shirt sleeves today because it was meant to be hot (I never wear short sleeves because of scars, but it was unpleasant yesterday) and it's not that warm! It was warmer, muggier yesterday.

it's very hot and humid in the north. I'm drenched with sweat after cutting my hedges, because of the inline I live on some sections are 12 ft high and require site prohibited balancing on the top rung of wobbling steps type doings. A nice cold tyskie has been a good tonic, but need to try not to drink any more till later because I have a curry to cook.

Drunk cooking is the best. I woke up this morning to find I had made stuffed mushrooms with couscous, peppers and Brie. Was a nice surprise.

drinking and cooking is a heavenly combination, it makes me feel like a sophisticated bon vivant - rather than the alcy disgrace I really am :p

Huge storm last night in southwest France, rained all day today

I wish we were getting the huge storms up here. Paris was burning again today. The metro smelled...well you already know.

22 and rain tomorrow though. Autumn can't begin soon enough after this ugly late summer.

Dutch records broken for September yesterday and today, never been this hot on these dates, 28-31. I'm ok with the heat, but it feel so weird with these temperatures that it gets dark so "early". Read a book (!) outside till one last night, dark from 20.30 on already. Times is weird.
