i love heckys but its also a personal thing, he was huge in the community everyone knows him here. his sauce is fantastic, i always keep a jar, but hes not doing 'authentic'-style bbq and in the grand scheme heckys is near the top of mid-tier bbq joints
― deej, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 18:01 (eighteen years ago)
oh and im referring to evanston heckys btw, the heckys near cabrini is terrible and not actually run by hecky, some dude just licensed the name and logo
― deej, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 18:02 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, I assumed as much. I had some good cornbread from the Evanston Hecky's once.
― jaymc, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 18:04 (eighteen years ago)

I find the nyc restaurant/bar reviews useful but you have to filter out all the people who give one-star write-ups to williamsburg bars and restaurants that just say "full of hipsters!!#%@$!"
even with all that type of junk there seems to be more "real people" honest reviews and less shills than on places like citysearch
-- dmr, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 17:33
^^^^^^ this is also true of austin
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 18:23 (eighteen years ago)
Fine the yelp reviews of Honey 1 can suck, that will keep too many people out of there so it doesn't get ruined. Calvin's and Fat Willy's BLOW.

Sites like Yelp will never ever replace having actual friends who know things for recommendations.

My impression is the quality of Yelp contributions on the WC is greater than that on the East.
It makes me think of erstwhile minor jam band yEP!

* every fucking annoying 10000-review east asian girl reminding you that she knows what real (korean/japanese/chinese) food is like and this place (measures up|does not measure up|is ok) in every fucking asian place ever *
― Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 18:34 (eighteen years ago)
still, better than fat jewish dudes who claim to know what real asian food is like, no?
― dan selzer, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 19:01 (eighteen years ago)
one reason i dont yelp is because if i did i would just end up rating every italian restaurant and pizza place in LA as one star and start all my reviews with "I'm from New Jersey, so I know what real Italian food is."
― max, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 19:03 (eighteen years ago)

I looked at the Yelp for DC and it was terrible and useless and full of flawed, miserable human beings who have chosen to live in this atrocious wasteland of injustice, fraud and sin, much like myself
― El Tomboto, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 20:14 (eighteen years ago)

― burt_stanton, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 20:28 (eighteen years ago)

Shasta is the mascot of the University of Houston athletics teams, the Houston Cougars. Shasta is a female cougar. While previously a live cougar, Shasta is now a costumed mascot.

LOVE A COUGAR: Yelp's sequel "Cougar Appreciation Night" is tonight at the Good Luck Bar. Help one Yelper answer these pressing questions: "Will the baby cougars stage a takeover and demand recognition from the men of Yelp? Will the public drunkenness factor of this event reach such epic proportions that Yelpers end up banned from the Good Luck Bar? Will any cougar-age women actually show up to this one?"
― omar little, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 19:28 (seventeen years ago)
the good luck bar sucks too
