Facebook neighborhood groups are the worst thing ever

(we get 4. Plus public holidays which'd be another 10 public holiday days off. PLus average 5-10 days sickleave).

I get more vacation for every year I've worked there. I'm up to nearly european standards by now

I've never had paid vacation at a job ... ever.

I don't even know what a vacation is at this point.

I have had vacations ... like maybe 4 weeks of vacation (not counting the one day off before or after Christmas) ... in the last 15 years.

even tho i kinda know that is a thing it still shocks the hell out of me

I max out at 6 weeks before I stop accruing time. So I'm always hitting that limit because it's hard to take time off. A true benefit!

I get to the point of use 'em or lose 'em and wind up taking off every Monday in May and June.

if it makes you feel any better, if I had a full-time job working for one employer that wasn't myself, I'd probably kill ... eh, I'd either quit or get fired within 18 months

can I have a few coworkers who work from home, making it not a big deal when another of us works from home a few days, which has stretched into "I'm working eight hours today from a house on the beach, and will be going to the beach after that time, but it's totally a normal work day, I swear"

I get four weeks vacation -- for some reason this is fairly common in my field but not in a lot of fields.

28 days is the legal minimum in the UK for full time worker. I get 21 days plus all the bank holidays (you are not guaranteed all the back holidays but it must be 28 days in total)

(I tried to get my entitlement reduced because I always have spare holiday left at the end of the year and would rather have the money but I was told it was not possible because of this minimum. This didn't stop them taking them off me, unpaid, when they 'expired')

Just ask a neighbourhood FB group what all their holiday entitlements and report back

I'll try to post stuff about it later but we have a huge local controversy right now over some nutjob and his Trump sign. Someone stole it multiple times, so the guy posted flyers all over the neighborhood offering a $5K reward plus 10% interest in his "lawsuit" proceeds for info about the thief. However he posted them on a bunch of old-growth trees (which is illegal) and did like $40,000 in damage.

The same guy also apparently ran for local office a few years ago and backed over a child with his campaign bus, killing the child.

how do you do that much damage to trees by just posting stuff on them? then again, if anyone could figure out how, it's probably that guy

I signed up for Nextdoor based on this thread's recommendations, since my neighborhood Facebook group wasn't paying off at all in terms of being the worst thing ever. The only suspicious person reported has been a white guy with purple hair, who was actually walking around breaking into cars in broad daylight.

nextdoor has actually been pretty reasonable in my area, although I haven't gained anything of value from it beyond an idea of which blocks have people who like online communities

I just joined again, even though they keep putting me in a neighborhood that's not even in my zip code.

But I did see there's a "Nearby Neighborhoods" function, so maybe I can sneak back into my own zone.

my latest favorite thing on nextdoor is the weekly "anyone know why police helicopter is flying overhead?"

More disturbingly, there are a lot of 'My husband was beaten up walking home' / 'Someone was in our garden trying to get in the back door last night' / 'Saw some sketchy people trying all the car doors down the street' posts which have pretty much stopped me leaving the house or sleeping soundly at night. I'd kind of rather be ignorant of these things.

I will say that they're not as batshit crazy on Nextdoor as they are on Facebook. Have run across any Sambo's posts yet.

Someone did post a Facebook link to a video and got besieged with half a dozen "I dont do Facebock!" replies.

Someone put me on a neighborhood fb group and it's lovely--flyers for community events, sales at locally owned stores, promoting music & art openings, being neighbors. It's heavily moderated by the owner tho.

NYC is still a liberal city even though Queens has some conservatives, so anyone posting anything overtly racist/homophobic gets shouted down pretty quickly.
