I don't want that, either, but I'm accepting that it'll probably happen. I just hope it happens in a way that makes sense and compromises the integrity of the narrative as little as possible. These guys and gals can handle it.

Yeah I'm crossing my fingers for Huell.
― chap, Thursday, 7 July 2016 16:19 (nine years ago)
I don't really see any reason for Walt to show up in this but who knows
― Οὖτις, Thursday, 7 July 2016 16:22 (nine years ago)
at this point I def trust the showrunners not to do some clumsy shoehorning fan service bullshit tho
― Οὖτις, Thursday, 7 July 2016 16:23 (nine years ago)
They've at least hinted at possible cameos from Walt and Jesse. I'm sure that, when and if it happens, it won't be much more than a quick winking nod. Like in half focus walking through the background at the grocery store or something.
― There must be some magic clue inside these gentle walls (Old Lunch), Thursday, 7 July 2016 16:26 (nine years ago)
Hank is a definite possibility. Maybe Gale, too. He was involved with Gus before the events of BB, no?
― JRN, Thursday, 7 July 2016 17:03 (nine years ago)
I'm certain that Flynn is one of the three, though.

can't tell if serious
― k3vin k., Thursday, 7 July 2016 17:08 (nine years ago)
such a useless character
it's pretty amazing how much better the characters are in BCS than BB btw, gus notwithstanding
Maybe Gale, too. He was involved with Gus before the events of BB, no?
my memory is that Gale is Gus's original cook so yeah I thought he might be a possibility too
― Οὖτις, Thursday, 7 July 2016 17:11 (nine years ago)
xpost I'm totally serious. We never got to see the oft-alluded to story of Flynn's summer job as an intern in Saul's office.
― some anal dread (Old Lunch), Thursday, 7 July 2016 17:12 (nine years ago)
Or the time that Flynn accidentally bumped into Tuco at the mall.

Lol Flynn!

So, fans, what sort of itch does this show scratch for you? I'm thinking about digging in, but I want a better idea of what it's trying to do.

Its the King of Comedy to Breaking Bad's Taxi Driver

― Οὖτις, Thursday, 12 January 2017 17:20 (nine years ago)
it's better than breaking bad imo
― k3vin k., Thursday, 12 January 2017 17:22 (nine years ago)
Just like King of Comedy is better than Taxi Driver, but it's the shocking & violent psycho drama more people praise rather than the more subtle and dry follow-up.

i'd watch a single-shot BCS ep
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 11 April 2017 16:13 (nine years ago)
this was pretty great; as with Americans, it's most interesting when it moves slowly and stays focused
― Bobson Dugnutt (ulysses), Tuesday, 11 April 2017 16:16 (nine years ago)
So psyched to watch this. I've been priming the pump by rewatching X-Files and realizing that Gilligan's episodes were often the best.
― Break the meat into the pineapples and pat them (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 11 April 2017 16:24 (nine years ago)
at this point, i consider Saul to just be an extension of Breaking Bad in terms of quality. Considering Gilligan's starting his eighth season at this level, i can't think of anyone else in television who's been able to sustain this greatness this long.
― Bobson Dugnutt (ulysses), Tuesday, 11 April 2017 16:31 (nine years ago)
i'm rewatching breaking bad right now, and just got to the first few episodes in season 2 where saul is introduced. obviously BCS is a prequel and there are connections to the breaking bad universe, but it'll be interesting to see how much they try to connect the two stories, especially saul's personality. in breaking bad, of course, he's introduced as this kind of dirtbag lawyer who only cares about making money. it's kind of jarring to see the scene in breaking bad where he gets kidnapped by walt and jesse - just before they nab him late at night as he's walking out of his office, saul is hitting on his secretary and asking if he can follow her home. that fits in with his breaking bad character (at least how he's first portrayed), but after the first two BCS seasons, it doesn't really seem like something he would do.
― Karl Malone, Tuesday, 11 April 2017 17:20 (nine years ago)
I haven't watched yet but in general BCS seems like its plotting the arc of Jimmy just totally giving up and going full dirtbag/ie becoming Saul and that the showrunners are fully aware of this
― Οὖτις, Tuesday, 11 April 2017 17:32 (nine years ago)
There was a brief Odenkirk interview in the NYT where he confirms we'll see the first overt shift into Saul-dom this season and mentions that reading the script in question made him really sad.

it's always sunny and the simpsons come to mind, but those are half-hour comedies rather than hour-long dramas
also imo BB was pretty patchy
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 11 April 2017 18:50 (nine years ago)
Unless you're talking about the inimitable Al Jean (which I suspect you are not), The Simpsons didn't have a single showrunner carrying them through nearly a decade of amazingly-solid TV so I'm not sure the comparison applies.
― Break the meat into the pineapples and pat them (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 11 April 2017 19:15 (nine years ago)
this "single showrunner" thing is a relatively new phenomenon
― Οὖτις, Tuesday, 11 April 2017 19:16 (nine years ago)
ah good point xp
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 11 April 2017 19:18 (nine years ago)
xpost Eh, kinda, but you did at least have big name producers/creators back in the day who presumably maintained some degree of quality control.
― Break the meat into the pineapples and pat them (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 11 April 2017 19:29 (nine years ago)
always sunny seems like the gold standard for this with comedies, yes... they've actually been consistently good longer than the simpsons imo!but simpler times
― Bobson Dugnutt (ulysses), Tuesday, 11 April 2017 20:31 (nine years ago)
Loved all the Mike scenes this week, although took me a while to work out what he was up to.
