Facebook neighborhood groups are the worst thing ever

I have friends who joined the community group for a town a half hour away after hearing how hilariously bad the group posts were :)

just seen a couple of black kids hanging round, didn't look like they were from the area stay safe ppl

I laugh every time, but there probably is someone asking this on every community thread and pplains is wishing he'd never heard the name "Sambo's"

I forgot the best fb neighborhood thing I heard about

a local photographer took pictures of every confederate flag he saw at a local motorcycle meet-up city event, didn't comment on it, just a series of pictures of helmets, patches, jackets, and stickers featuring the confederate flag, and someone posted it without comment in the fb group

I wound up finding a PC Richards sales guy through my neighborhood group because I need a new dishwasher, and he actually started talking to me about how upset he was about the Barnes & Noble while I was on the phone with him!

I felt sort of embarrassed because I've occasionally trolled people about it.

don't have a neighborhood group but my train line has a group and it's been inflamed this week by smokers on the line ; obv smoking on the train is illegal but there's rarely security on the train so smokers occupy a whole section of the train and it gets thick. the group has been discussing techniques for stopping the smokers (like pulling alarms to get the train stopped for security to be called) and others are angry that it'll delay our rides and it goes on on on

have they asked ppl to please not smoke

the passengers? yeah but it's big groups, like 10+, of smokers. they just ignore requests. I'm all for jailing the lot of them but the fb group hasn't yet settled on a collective solution that doesn't involve the cops (since the cops aren't generally around)

Guess the neighborhood is getting more upscale, cuz we now have our first (afaik) "Can you believe what these nannies are asking for?!" thread.

I had to ban myself from the thread because I was getting so fucking irate, and I always have to remind myself "these are real people who live in my neighborhood. Their kids may go to school with my kids soon."

Interviewed a nanny last night and she requested two weeks paid vacation and five paid sick days, In addition to holidays.Do people here give their nannies paid vacation, paid national holidays and paid sick days? What about a metro card? Thanks so much! She would be with us 35 hours a week.

Holy shit, theyre objecting to providing whats effectively a fulltime employee their owed holidays and sick leave? Nannies are workers like anyone else, you entitled shitfucks. If you cant afford it, fucking look after your own damn chilren.

I mean as it is, I always spittake at the news that in the US, it seems the normal "good" job benefit is for only 2 weeks leave a year!?

(we get 4. Plus public holidays which'd be another 10 public holiday days off. PLus average 5-10 days sickleave).

I get more vacation for every year I've worked there. I'm up to nearly european standards by now

I have had vacations ... like maybe 4 weeks of vacation (not counting the one day off before or after Christmas) ... in the last 15 years.

even tho i kinda know that is a thing it still shocks the hell out of me

I max out at 6 weeks before I stop accruing time. So I'm always hitting that limit because it's hard to take time off. A true benefit!

I get to the point of use 'em or lose 'em and wind up taking off every Monday in May and June.

if it makes you feel any better, if I had a full-time job working for one employer that wasn't myself, I'd probably kill ... eh, I'd either quit or get fired within 18 months

can I have a few coworkers who work from home, making it not a big deal when another of us works from home a few days, which has stretched into "I'm working eight hours today from a house on the beach, and will be going to the beach after that time, but it's totally a normal work day, I swear"

I get four weeks vacation -- for some reason this is fairly common in my field but not in a lot of fields.

28 days is the legal minimum in the UK for full time worker. I get 21 days plus all the bank holidays (you are not guaranteed all the back holidays but it must be 28 days in total)

(I tried to get my entitlement reduced because I always have spare holiday left at the end of the year and would rather have the money but I was told it was not possible because of this minimum. This didn't stop them taking them off me, unpaid, when they 'expired')

I'll try to post stuff about it later but we have a huge local controversy right now over some nutjob and his Trump sign. Someone stole it multiple times, so the guy posted flyers all over the neighborhood offering a $5K reward plus 10% interest in his "lawsuit" proceeds for info about the thief. However he posted them on a bunch of old-growth trees (which is illegal) and did like $40,000 in damage.

The same guy also apparently ran for local office a few years ago and backed over a child with his campaign bus, killing the child.
