so wait, the heir to the iron throne, jon stark-targaryen, is going to marry his first cousin, sansa arryn-stark-lannister-bolton, the queen of the north, in time to defend westeros from his other first cousin (aunt?), danaerys targaryen-targaryen, and her dothraki and greyjoy sidekicks . . . and cousin/wife's ex-husband, tyrion? am i getting that right?

I thought LF's plan was to either marry Sansa or hand her head over to Cersei? Both plans would get him the north.

sansa's actions do not match her characters motivation, which is in contradiction to everything about the show

I agree they haven't done an entirely convincing job with this but they have been setting up Sansa's distrust of Jon in nearly every scene they share this season. She has clearly been transformed by her experiences and rightly sees Jon as a Ned Stark Jr. who will stick to the old ways and get himself and everyone else killed. Her motivation was to be the one who defeated Ramsey and killed him. Jon was her tool for that job, but she needed a back-up.

But even if she distrusts him, for this battle their interests are identical, I think. It's not to her benefit for Jon to lose here.

her interest is in Jon not fucking things up by rejecting LF's help for reasons of honor.

Anyway, giving up here. I'm still really enjoying the show and I hope it continues. Could do with more odd couple adventuring.

I think the verdict is the show was good until Littlefinger's army came from the wrong direction. That was its shark jump.

I'm not making plot arguments (I haven't discussed Sansa's choice), I wasn't questioning your ability to comprehend, I was just curious since you do a lot of reading and watching of things I'd presume are only available in English. I was just surprised that you might read it in Danish.

I heard the books are best read in their original English, then translated to Danish, then back to English. That's what they're basing the teleplays on.

1. cersei sets off the wildfire under kings landing after her trial, just in time for jaime to see it returning home from rivverrun (ie he killed his king to avoid this, only to have his sister do it 20 years later)

2. varys shows up in dorne

3. littlefinger is creepy but then sansa threatens to kill littlefinger since technically dumb jon arryn is ruler of the vale and she can have his allegiance with or without baelish

4. the brotherhood without banners, plus hound, run into brienne and podrick and they all agree to head north together and not kill each other

5. tommen dies and margaery escapes kings landing, somehow

6. sam and gilly get to the citadel

7. daenarys & co. get on some ships finally

8. davos says some cold shit to melisandre

Totally not sure of my confidence level in the Tower of Joy greenseer revelation with Bran though. That seems like something they'll save for next season, to me. So I guess:

the whole "ned starks blood runs through his veins" was a little on the nose after the reveal in the tower of joy but yeah

neat shot pairing of cersei's red keep vista followed later by tommen's

I liked the ned stark's blood line after the reveal. "On the nose" could be the subtitle for this whole ep and I'm fine with that

tommens was a death foretold but I was genuinely surprised at how they got to it

Anybody else get a very Terry Gilliam-esque vibe from a lot of these scenes? Obviously the one when Sam applies in person for Maester University, but others too

also let's not forget that arya didn't just kill walder frey she straight butchered his sons. damn girl

Am generally cool with the travelling time absurdities of the past few seasons but Varys being on the boat was a bit too much even for me.

Can't believe they've set up a situation where Littlefinger could actually get to the throne, even if it I suspect it would only be for about 7 minutes.

mostly just keeping track of how they're killing off and simplifying the cast of characters. Some very advantageous situations

I do agree the apparent speed of Varys' boat beggars the medieval fantasy imagination. I'm only half kidding, I would have given that a half raspberry had I already not used up all my THPPPBFFT on the "this brown-eyed baby equals Jon Snow" shot transition
