I thought Frey was very serious about the marriages and children with other prestigious houses.

It's not just that she's a Frey, but the half-Frey baby was heir to the warden of the north. It was a pretty great thing for that house.

I did wonder whether Edmure might respond to Jaime's threats by being kind of like "I have never actually met my son because I've been imprisoned since the night of his conception, and in retrospect I feel somewhat ambivalent about the way my marriage was actually a sham to facilitate the murder of my family"

but he seemed pretty shaken, so job done I guess

tbf jamie gave him a p comfortable out compared to his current accommodations too

People are really mad about the Arya storyline

Arya is my favourite character. She has been away from the main action for at least 2 seasons more than she should have been but it was obvious a long time ago that she was going to come back north so the haters can gtf afaic.

that's nuts. the more rory mccann the better.

In the last two episodes, Arya kept flipping between being a badass with everything worked out and being an idiot on the verge of death.

Her Braavos story went on too long with too little of a payoff.

I kind of wonder if Arya really was bleeding after she jumped into the fruit market -- because in addition to oranges you see some red fruits, and the red you see on her shirt is because she squashed some fruit.

if we ever needed a time for Benioff and Weiss to explain something post-show, "so yes Arya tricked the waif with blood orange juice" instead of being like "durr durr Brienne and Jaime have a mutual connection and respect"

If you look closely, Sean Bean's decapitated head was actually a fruit basket. That is, the very same fruit basket Littlefinger sent the Lannisters as congrats to Joffery, who was secretly a Baratheon, which we know is the name of Sean Bean's best friend in season 1.

all that aside, the episode seemed to have a really striking visual style that I wish was present in more episodes.

Yeah this episode looked great. It was directed by the guy who did "Hardhome" last year.

i hope sansa sends a raven to theon just to give him a heads up that ramsay got his face chewed off by his own hounds. "took care of that thing for you" etc.

I loved a lot of things in the fight, but not a lot of surprises overall

this was an artfully done episode meant to satisfy a lot of viewer wishes imo more than it was meant to be surprising or interesting. i did think as a battle scene that this was pretty tight, i actually thought this episode might end up as jon snow's little big horn.

the fact that it wasn't super surprising or narratively interesting doesn't meant that it wasn't also dope, i thought this was some good shit.

The "maybe it's the budget?" Theories are among my least favorite of all nitpicks

Great ep, very formally well done, thought it was great how the battle really hammered home the luck involved (undercutting the notion of Fate) in Jon snow's success; actually have enjoyed that about his resurrection as well, they treat it not as a foregone conclusion but as an accident

Also showed how much they owe Littlefinger now

They def made sure to mention the Wildfire again

Love a lot of the fabric I see in the series. Jackets on kings and hauberks on Tyreon etc etc.
Wonder if the fabric is widely available or custom made.

That was a nicely satisfying (and brutal!) episode. Needed some shadenfreude.

Dany's plan was to kill them all and then send a message by burning several other cities. Tyrion's plan involved killing just enough of the attackers to send the rest running screaming.

Totally called it on Ramsay's death but I suppose it was heavily telegraphed.

Now that Sansa is basically turning into Catelyn Stark I suppose that gives her some sort of power over Littlefinger, who really hasn't had much to do this season.
