Danny Murphy sounds like a man contemplating his mortality from the bottom of a commentary box gin right now.

different ways to take the jogi scenes. on a personal level it deepens the vague perv kyle machlachlanism (gas mask tubed directly into trousers next match?) more generally the class/degenerate thing accurately reflects the unsettling vibe of this german side, totally slack ruthless champions

The scent of victory.

On the metro just now hordes of both Sweden and Ireland fans on the way to the game already I suppose. One guy was wearing an Irish flag around his shoulders...well, it was half flag and half Guinness advert. He also had a Swedish flag painted on his face. Hoping the thread can clear this up for me (or for him)

Milner was also full of praise for England's performance against Russia, insisting that it was the best by any team in the tournament so far. "I think if you look at all the other games in the tournament so far, only one has really stood out and (we) put in a really good performance,"

ITV have worked their magic on you?
― Larry 'Leg' Smith (Tom D.), Monday, 13 June 2016 12:56 (eight years ago) link
lol is that what they've been saying? only just tuned in. i just thoroughly dislike a lot of this Spanish team. Iniesta and Morata exceptions, don't know enough about Nolito to comment on way or the other
― Windsor Davies, Monday, 13 June 2016 13:00 (eight years ago) link
xpost Are they anti-Spain? Thank fuck I can avoid those ITV cunts.
― Neptune Bingo (Michael B), Monday, 13 June 2016 13:01 (eight years ago) link
LOL, I was thinking the opposite, I didn't see it, but I can imagine them spending 30 minutes slavering over Spain and Spanish football and tiki taka and, "Who are they playing again? Czechoslovakia?" The sort of approach that turned a nation off Brazil and Brazilian football had them cheering the Germans on, in pubs up and down the land, as they demolished them 7-1.
― Larry 'Leg' Smith (Tom D.), Monday, 13 June 2016 13:14 (eight years ago) link
Well there was a lot of criticism about Spain being conservative and boring in the 2010 WC
― Neptune Bingo (Michael B), Monday, 13 June 2016 13:22 (eight years ago) link
tyldesley seemed to be endorsing the view of the czech rep. manager that how spain play is no longer a novelty and teams know what to expect now...as if they somehow didn't in 2012.

“I don’t see anything wrong with the fans fighting,” Igor Lebedev wrote on Twitter. “Quite the opposite, well done lads, keep it up!”Lebedev, who sits on the executive committee of the Russian football union, is an MP from the nationalist Liberal Democratic party and the deputy chairman of the Russian parliament.“I don’t understand those politicians and officials who are criticising our fans. We should defend them, and then we can sort it out when they come home,” Lebedev wrote in a series of tweets.“In nine out of 10 cases, football fans go to games to fight, and that’s normal. The lads defended the honour of their country and did not let English fans desecrate our motherland. We should forgive and understand our fans,” Lebedev told the news agency.

Igor Lebedev is the son of Vladimir Zhirinovsky fwiw so public brawling in far more refined fora than the streets of Marseille is in the blood.

McCarthy the weak link in that midfield. His technique is very poor for a 10-15m rated player and his tackling is poorly judged more often than not.
― Daithi Bowsie (darraghmac), Monday, 13 June 2016 16:48 (eight years ago) link
