reader, i chickened out

Espresso and tonic is apparently starting to become popular.

Some fancy places pour you sparkling water to chase your espresso shot but I haven't seen them combined.

just a fad that allows for artisanal/organic overcharging. it has the advantage of being cold w/out ice watering it down, but cold-brew already does that. no noticeable taste difference either

seems like one of those things where a coffee shop moves into a space that used to be a bar and is like 'hmm what if we ran cof through the tap'

well, what i've seen is cold brewed nitrogenated. so that makes it inherently more expensive. had it a couple times and i kinda love it. as with nitro-beer, nitro gives a lighter texture, not supposed to be a flavor thing, imho

never noticed coffee having a texture other than liquid

i guess it gives it a head like beer. still seems like a gimmick. they should start stamping the foam lol

Maybe the nitrogenation causes the caff to get absorbed more quickly like beer and alk

nitro-muddling is fun and i really dig left hand's milk stout nitro but i've not gotten around to nitro coffee

should remedy this soon tho

I made bread replacing all the water with a Left Hand milk stout (don't know if it was nitro), it was delicious.

tbh the local place with nitro cold cof is a bar, so I could imagine my need to repeatedly pour beverages down my throat while at the bar would benefit from having a cof every couple drinks

nitro coffee basically has the "mouthfeel" (gross terrible word) of guinness

that was exactly what i was thinking, but didn't have the nerve to say it. but Stevie said "silky" upthread a bit, which i like

can you mix it with guinness and have it taste not terrible

mh when you are in Montreal for the upcoming electronic good times we will have to go try espresso + tonic, because it is now the thing and I have not had it

i've had a nitro cold brew from a place here, i expected it would somehow be like guinness and that's what it turned out to be like. some head, perhaps a touch more creamy texture and more moderate taste, but i had never had their straight up cold brew before, so not entirely sure. i did get the impression of 'quality' but not so much more that i am gung-ho to seek the drink out again. (i wasn't paying, but my impression was that it was kind of irritatingly priced.) i kind of like my cold brew to be a bit of a shock, not like drinking iced tea.

I need to tweak my Japanese-style iced cof game; if I replace 600mg of the water of a pot of cof w/ 200mg of ice, that means 1/3 of the water is NOT going thru the grounds and therefore produces a weaker cof, but decreasing the ice will result in a not-cold-enough brew :(

I up that to 35-40g coffee, I also fudge because because there's always some ice that hasn't melted by the time I finish my pint glass.

i used 40g cof w/ a total of 600g water (200 ice, 400 hot water), which is the same 1:15 ratio i use when brewing hot; i shd prob do something closer to 1:12 when doing iced to compensate
