I do care to a certain degree about who wins the US primaries (insofar as US politics does have an impact in the UK + worldwide), but FFS how long do they go on for? This isn't even the actual election!

this primary season has admittedly been the worst one i can ever remember in terms of length and substance and the overall dislikable nature of pretty much all the candidates.

like every u.s. presidential election season in my lifetime, this is the most boringly protracted one ever.

As painful as this election cycle looks, it pales before 2000's. That one had a coda.

2000 was... such a drudge

I remember how 1988 at time was deemed one of the worst ever. Then 2000 dwarfed it. Now we've got what we've got in 2016 and a split Supreme Court -- I can almost see why doing anything by popular vote inevitably leads to disaster now.

But ya know, I really have come around to making these things Things I Just Don't Care About. It's a bit forced, but it gets me out of bed in the mornings.

living in the same city as long as I have I have learned to accept the constant turnover as institutions as part of the nature of urban living. That doesn't mean I don't miss places when they go (and I could offer a fairly long list) but I mourn them and move on cuz there's always some other new thing opening.

I mean, I bought a few things at OM, and I can appreciate the affection some had for the place. But I also saw insanely overpriced things there, and likely wasn't the only one who experienced (first-hand) their "What? No, you must be mistaken -- we never stocked that title" consignment shenanigans.

seems like a lot of the people who are saddest when things close have the oldest stories about being a customer. it's more like a lost youth thing. "awww, shit, haven't been there in years, but i remember fondly..."

it's probably just like the celebrity death thing. you might not have thought about prince for a long time, but, you know, memories.

I was in Other Music just about 2 years ago (May 2014; I remember because I was in the neighborhood for other reasons). I didn't buy anything because, as always, their jazz selection was shit.
