sometimes on ilx you will have someone make a joke, wordplay, whatever and a couple ppl will riff on it and that's ok, and sometimes 4 or 5 and it starts getting annoying and in crisis situations a dozen plus and it is a disaster but that lukewarm reddit joke has like 400 sad riffs and puns. if i hadn't been so quick on the back button i might've been crushed under the depressing weight of it. and presumably they have a whole subreddit of that!

a dude i know who always seems to have a funky smell but bathes regularly likes magic, too. there has to be some sort of common factor, maybe some bacterial or fungal infection you get at magic tournaments

First, you are probably not favored against bant. Early in the format I played stock bant vs. atraverse darkdwellers jund with mindwrack demon and chandra (and not all the irresponsible cards like dragonlord kologhan and the gitrog monster). We were testing so we played about 10 games and I crushed him 10-0 and he decided to go get a new deck. Now those results are probably lopsided because there were some close games I won out of sheer brilliance, but never did I feel like his deck was favored in the matchup.
You use the words "recursive" and "grindy" to try and identify why Jund is superior to bant. But those are just substitutes for the term "card advantage", which Bant definitely has more of (and cheaper). You're forced to play bad card advantage engines that are extremely tempo negative, like read the bones. Even darkdwellers really only gains you ~1 mana if you set it up (and hemorrhages mana if you loop traverses for darkdwellers). You also have lots of tempo-negative 1-for-1's like traverse, ruinous path, to the slaughter, etc.
p.s. you really need deathcap cultivator to cast 5 and 6-drops unless you're playing full-on control. Getting Chandra out a turn earlier will more than make up for the "card disadvantage" you get by sweeping up your own dork.

The deck also plays ~16 2-drops. The deck is built to do 2 things a turn on turn 4+

magic tournaments tend to cram a lot of people into tiny spaces for many hours at a time, since most game stores don't have/can't afford large amount of playspace. so even if everyone has reasonable hygiene, things can still get gross by the end of the day
