I also start to worry if many women in a restaurant are beautiful in a trendy or stylish way. The point is not that beautiful women have bad taste in food. Instead, the problem is that they will attract a lot of men to the restaurant, whether or not the place serves excellent food. And that allows the restaurant to cut back on the quality of the food.

thanking u caek for this important discovery
A small aside: in many restaurants, it is a propitious omen when the diners are screaming at each other. It’s a sign they are regular customers and feel at home. Many Chinese restaurants are full of screaming Chinese patrons. Don’t ask me if they’re fighting, I have no idea—but it is a sign that I want to be there too.

haha are you guys totally unfamiliar with Tyler Cowen? he's a really prominent economist (well, internet-prominent; i have no idea what his academic rep is)
― goole, Friday, 15 April 2016 21:20 (ten years ago)
I don't follow (m)any economists so no, I don't know him. I am sad I now know how he approaches food, and also I am a little sadder about the entire concept of food.

guy is really good at explaining how some knobs on a box with infinite knobs effects the output of the box even though he can never hold the other rapidly changing knobs constant so as to isolate the effects of the knobs he is guessing about, i.e. he is an economist.

not only at GMU, but head of the Mercatus Center there. It's the flagship of academic libertarianism and basically the creation of the Koch network.

3-to-3.5 star restaurants are consistently good on Yelp -- it's the only thing about the site worth a bean. You head into a new town, find a kind of restaurant you are looking for, scan the 3-to-3.5 reviews to make sure there is no criticism of the food that makes any coherent sense, and you are good to go.

Yelp is extremely useful outside of the ratings just for the advanced filtered search. No quicker way to find an Indian food place in a specific neighborhood, that takes cards, is kid friendly, good for groups, has coat check and has a full bar.

We actually avoid Pizza Huts in general now. My last experience was at this location. Went to dinner with out of town friends with a child that could not tolerate specific foods (so ordered a plain pizza because of it.) We ordered two pizzas and when one showed up we decided to wait until the other showed up because we didn't want to eat without the child eating also. After a polite wait I went up to the servers area and asked when we would see our other pizza and the waitress went nuts claiming I pulled her hair. The other servers went into gang mode and I never touched the woman. Not only do we not eat there but there are so many other pizza establishments that it won't be missed. Try Pat's Pizza instead.

DO NOT GIVE MICHAEL'S FROZEN CUSTARD YOUR BUSINESS!!!They call the parking police (who then ticket your car...$30 fine) even when, as what happened with us, you go across the street with the intention of getting an ice cream after. AND when we called to ask them why they called the Parking Police they were rude and refused to write a letter stating it was an error. We will never go there EVER again and urge others to boycott them.

wow i gotta say, ice cream in a college town really brings out the yelpiest of yelp reviewers
I've had really good turkey burgers from Michael's, and I've had turkey burgers that were undercooked and scary and that I ended up throwing out after a couple of gross, slimy bites, fearing for my health. In both cases, I have observed, without any judgement, that different staff could be associated with different burger outcomes. In all cases where I was served a well-cooked and well-assembled burger, the staff appeared to be from south-of-the border. I am given to understand by those in the know that a large percentage of restaurant staff is of Mexican or Central American origin. I made the assumption, from their distinct Latin appearance and relatively thick accents, that this was the case at Michael's. Also, in those cases, I observed that the service was quick, efficient, and courteous. On the other hand, in all cases where I was server a horrible, inedible burger, the associated staff was comprised of teenaged white kids. In those cases, the service was slow and inattentive, and the kids could barely put down their iPhones to help me as I stood at the order window. The burgers were haphazardly assembled, and usually of lesser quality generally.I offer these observations without agenda, and I leave any conclusions for you, Dear Reader, to draw for yourself.

So, I'm a bit perturbed and unsure what to do. Please advise.
As some of you may know, I recently landed an assistant store manager job at a Goodwill retail store. This particular store was not doing especially well, in every aspect, so I was brought in as part of the upper staff and management changes to (hopefully) redirect and increase the store's success. It's been a couple months, so we've addressed pretty much all of the internal store issues and have either rectified them or are in the process of doing so. Because of this, I'm really actively looking at all external avenues to try and improve the store's image.
We're currently at three stars on Yelp.
That, in itself, doesn't bother me all that much. Of course I would like it to be higher, but all except one of the bad (two stars and lower) reviews are from before the big changes took place, so I don't really see it as an accurate reflection of the store now. And hopefully, the people who look us up on Yelp are paying attention to the dates the bad reviews were written (maybe I'm having too much faith here, but I digress).
The one recent bad review I take issue with is because I feel it is personally attacking one of our cashiers. The review states (paraphrasing) that the cashier took a long time inspecting each of the patron's items as they were checking out and the patron felt this was unnecessary and like the cashier was suspicious of the patron (for what, the reviewer never specifies, just that they did feel like a suspect). That's fine; address your issues. I am not opposed to critical feedback. Where I take major issue with this particular review is that the reviewer took a photo of the cashier (obviously without the cashier's knowledge or permission) and specifically singled the cashier out in the photo's caption. I feel like this crosses the line from constructive criticism into personal attack.
As I know this cashier personally, I know that it is simply their way of conducting a transaction. They are very thorough, but fair. And the truth of the matter is that people do switch tags and try to get inauthentic discounts. A lot. So, all of cashiers have their own way of dealing with this ongoing issue, but as management, we have been very staunch in our stance that we need to honor all tags as they appear, unless there are specific precautions taken (as are when we are dealing with higher ticket items) and/or the tag shows obvious signs of tampering (and, in this case, a manager is always to be called to address the situation).
Do I have a legit issue here to take up with Yelp? Or am I being overprotective of my staff and taking this bad review to heart when I should just ignore it?

for real though: do not bend to the demands of the yelp bully; proudly place your "fuck these guys" sign in the window
is the issue the bully's demands, or the use of the photo?
