option to display 100 random posts on a single page

really good idea

de l'asshole (flopson), Saturday, 9 April 2016 00:07 (ten years ago)

also it's been a couple years since we talked about it but time for avatars imo

de l'asshole (flopson), Saturday, 9 April 2016 00:08 (ten years ago)

I want to publish like three or four epic threads in book form. I've talked about this before.

Treeship, Saturday, 9 April 2016 00:45 (ten years ago)

It would be sort of like a novel: there are the conversation topics but the reaaaal story is what is going on between the posters.

Treeship, Saturday, 9 April 2016 00:46 (ten years ago)

get to print

portumnes (alomar lines), Saturday, 9 April 2016 03:52 (ten years ago)

i've also had the idea of writing a novel where the text was just fictional message board threads. it would be a lot easier to just copy ilx threads though

Treeship, Saturday, 9 April 2016 04:58 (ten years ago)

Just a bit of fun

i believe that (s)he is sincere (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 9 April 2016 18:06 (ten years ago)

* Bookmarks separated out by board?

never ending bath infusion (Doctor Casino), Thursday, 14 April 2016 00:23 (ten years ago)

That's potentially something greasemonkey could do give that the board id is in the url... Would need to lookup board name (or use a hard coded list)

koogs, Thursday, 14 April 2016 02:23 (ten years ago)

Mind, I dunno how useful anyone but me would find it - just sometimes I'm looking idly but nonspecifically for a familiar I Love Photography thread to peruse, say.

three months pass...

android zing wld be v intersting!

one month passes...

plz to restore classic-style capitalization for the "two weeks ago" thingy?

Silence, followed by unintelligible stammering. (Doctor Casino), Thursday, 25 August 2016 21:18 (nine years ago)

please stop referencing post times to the current time and instead reference them to midnight of the forthcoming christmas day

veggie sticks potato snacks (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 25 August 2016 21:34 (nine years ago)

i agree with Casino, looks yuck now

flopson, Thursday, 25 August 2016 21:41 (nine years ago)

Absolute dates only.

Jeff, Thursday, 25 August 2016 21:50 (nine years ago)

Dates in kelvin

poor fiddy-less albion (darraghmac), Thursday, 25 August 2016 21:51 (nine years ago)

the time words force you to engage your slow thinking and ask yourself "will this zing be good if it is responding to a fifty-eight minutes old post?"

veggie sticks potato snacks (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 25 August 2016 21:52 (nine years ago)

I like the relative timing - I feel like it's been this way since I came back? Y'all whinin' 'bout 'nothin

El Tomboto, Friday, 26 August 2016 00:02 (nine years ago)

The relative time only bothers me on zing touch because you have to click on the individual post to see the date-time

Jeff, Friday, 26 August 2016 00:21 (nine years ago)

a bot that bumps a random thread every day (and temporarily pins it to the top of SNA) with the text "did we ever get this sorted?"

hippie lady from california who loves that god (unregistered), Tuesday, 30 August 2016 16:23 (nine years ago)

I like that one. Extra entertaining on days when it throws up an old clusterfuck.

aaaaaaaauuuuuuuuu (melting robot) (WilliamC), Tuesday, 30 August 2016 16:44 (nine years ago)

we've got one of these already surely?

Len Bincowank (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 30 August 2016 16:45 (nine years ago)

did we ever get this sorted?

ælərdaɪs (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 30 August 2016 16:46 (nine years ago)

ilx is aching for a "ask darraghmac: did we ever get this sorted?" thread

F♯ A♯ (∞), Tuesday, 30 August 2016 18:17 (nine years ago)

I just feel that yknow we have a perfectly good random thread function, are we using it enough kind of thing

poor fiddy-less albion (darraghmac), Sunday, 4 September 2016 03:17 (nine years ago)

two weeks pass...

I Love Polls board.

For all the polls and their lovers.

get outta the way! here comes (onimo), Saturday, 24 September 2016 11:24 (nine years ago)

three weeks pass...

every day when you sign in you are randomly assigned the username of another poster. you need to post as that person -- each poster's identity becomes an ongoing, collaborative performance.

Treeship, Saturday, 15 October 2016 01:47 (nine years ago)

I'm 80% sure you already had that idea

slathered in cream and covered with stickers (silby), Saturday, 15 October 2016 01:50 (nine years ago)

No way dude

calstars, Saturday, 15 October 2016 01:59 (nine years ago)

yolo mostly (sleepingbag), Saturday, 15 October 2016 02:07 (nine years ago)

Treeship you should dress up as Jorge Luis Borges and try to be him

slathered in cream and covered with stickers (silby), Saturday, 15 October 2016 02:08 (nine years ago)

Ok we started. This is surprisingly easy. Jon is such a cipher anyway.

one month passes...

instead of fp, can we have a button that just puts a cap on how many posts a poster can post per day/week/month or something

a but (brimstead), Wednesday, 7 December 2016 02:34 (nine years ago)

Ability to "like" posts - but every upvote costs you yourself a fp, so they'd be used sparingly. Then a button to display most-liked posts across all boards. Breadcrumbs to the gold in them thar hills.

Ability to edit yr post if nobody has posted behind you - generally, then, would be confined to fixing rypod.

hardcore dilettante, Wednesday, 7 December 2016 03:01 (nine years ago)

er, *typos

hardcore dilettante, Wednesday, 7 December 2016 03:02 (nine years ago)

Mandatory catchphrases.

Treeship, Wednesday, 7 December 2016 03:13 (nine years ago)

randomised word replacement

a spoiler tag that colours text white on white until you hover over.

brekekekexit collapse collapse (ledge), Wednesday, 25 January 2017 13:53 (nine years ago)

Would require adapting for every style sheet

The beaver is not the bad guy (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 25 January 2017 14:00 (nine years ago)

would it? how many style sheets have a non-white background color? fuck 'em, make it work for the 80% (or 90% or 99%).

brekekekexit collapse collapse (ledge), Wednesday, 25 January 2017 14:03 (nine years ago)

I'm definitely for this idea!

Tuomas, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 14:16 (nine years ago)

in the old days we just used rot13

kinder, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 14:18 (nine years ago)

i agree, change is bad.

brekekekexit collapse collapse (ledge), Wednesday, 25 January 2017 14:27 (nine years ago)

I was just thinking through how it might be done

Realized immediately after posting that oh yeah I just sounded like that guy

The beaver is not the bad guy (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 25 January 2017 14:31 (nine years ago)

change is bad, unless you're changing from a bad thing to a good thing I guess but when does that happen

kinder, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 14:33 (nine years ago)

i would go black on black rather than white on white so that you know the spoiler is there and don't accidentally mouseover something you don't want to see. though there's probably some weirdo out there with a black background stylesheet so maybe it has to be configurable

ciderpress, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 14:44 (nine years ago)

This is turning into a terrible work meeting. I want a quick fix, no configuration!

brekekekexit collapse collapse (ledge), Wednesday, 25 January 2017 15:17 (nine years ago)

Still want to be able to page people to threads, by saying @stet what do you think? or something.

Also, spoiler feature.

ugh man pplains spoiler tags are always annoying and poorly implemented, plus then you get arguments about spoiler enforcement and blah blah, creates more problems than it solves
