It's tooootally today. I was partying and then nightbussing (during which I was writing some stuff but got distracted by some very pleasant gay chaps dissecting michael jackson's career and analyzing the various merits thereof).

I took the nightbus exactly once when I was living in London from around Centre Point way to Snarebrook and it took something like THREE HOURS. That was the end of that little experiment for me. It was pretty entertaining though - I was promised that I'd see someone be sick and at least one fight and I saw both!

THREE HOURS? fuuuuuuuuck.

I was once on a nightbus with a guy who took it upon himself to be sick in every seat on the top deck. Every time he puked he moved seats. Pretty vacant top deck by the time the bus arrived in East Dulwich.

Do you pronounce species as spee-sheez or spee-seez? And do you have a more general take on the two pronunciations, ie, more biologists tend to use one over the other, or maybe it's a regional thing, or...?

Maybe add shpee-seez as one of your pronunciation options, too. I feel like I've heard that one a few times before.

I think I say it both ways. The professor I worked with last semester said all kinds of shit in ways I'd never heard it pronounced, ie "meiosis" as "meeeosis," whereas I (and everyone I have ever fucking met) pronounce it "my-osis." Maybe this has warped my pronunciation of things. I think I say it as "spe-sheez" more often (which I pronounce "offen").

I love Chareth so much! The female of his species can get to be 18" long in the wild. Is that terrifying or what? Sometimes I have an anxiety dream that Chareth has grown to fill up his tank. Anyway, I am glad you like him. Watching him swim is better than TV.
