i will usually finish my cup but really first 20-30 minutes is best

marcos, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 18:00 (ten years ago)

I bet I didn't need to slam down that large cold brew in just 20 minutes

eyecrud (silby), Wednesday, 30 March 2016 19:49 (ten years ago)

I can easily forget coffee, I don't get horrible headaches but feel dumber without it.

And I'll often drink half a cup and set it down while chasing the kid around and forget where I left it, but I'll always drink the rest when I find it no matter what temperature.

joygoat, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 20:45 (ten years ago)

i was going to call you a "degenerate" for that last comment but then i absent-mindedly took a sip from the tepid mug of coffee next to my computer and realized i had been unconsciously doing that for the past hour.

Treeship, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 20:49 (ten years ago)

lately i've been noticing that my chemex coffee seems to grow more delicious the longer it sits, i think it actually tastes better warm than hot

v v tru of cafetiere coffee also imo, like the biggest determinant of how nice it is is just whether or not i was patient enough to let it brew & kinda sweeten over an extra couple minutes before pouring

I can easily forget coffee, I don't get horrible headaches but feel dumber without it.

when i really think about this it seems so heavy, i love coffee & i feel no coffee guilt, am enabled by the recent metaanalytical study confirming coffee makes you live forever, &c, but i had a saturday recently of hanging out with people earlier than usual, & feeling slow, a lazy & unconvivial conversational participant in the morning, & then sharp & quick as soon as i had drunk coffee, the coffee spinach but my popeye strength acuity. i am p sure my sense of self takes my coffee self as the true baseline? & this isn't strange, it also probably takes like my clothed self as my true & platonic baseline in some ways, this also obviously a construct, but at the same time it reminds me how deep the connection runs

hey does anyone take coffee apparatus to work. i drink nasty work coffee all day & don't mind but i am kinda awed when i see someone traipsing back to their desk carrying this tidy lil bodum spread all ready to sup in a more civilised fashion

1st Amendment absolutist in favor of the unltd publication of sextapes (schlump), Saturday, 2 April 2016 05:58 (ten years ago)

i wish i had a better grasp of the ideal conditions for consuming coffee in order to achieve optimal Coffee Self. usually, coffee works; sometimes coffee just fkn backfires; and sometimes it's magical, like methamphetamine minus the tweak. i read something recently that suggested drinking coffee only after ~9:30am to achieve this state. yeahhh right.

A rich, velvety coffee that's great as part of an early breakfast, or for drinking anytime throughout the day.

Had some cof just now -- the office has this Jura auto-espresso machine that they fill with starbucks beans. It's like just ok enough that I try to use it and not buy coffee, but it has a slight nastiness to it. Super acidic.

I'm usually a light-medium roast guy, but I got a bag of Sumatra Gayo River which was more of a medium-dark and it's making me re-evaluate. It's not at all burnt tasting, but the slightly darker roast brings out some really nice spicy notes.

o. nate, Tuesday, 5 April 2016 18:06 (ten years ago)

Sumatra is known for being very zingy and spicy and sharp. I've never really had it light-roasted, but would be curious to try.

human life won't become a cat (man alive), Tuesday, 5 April 2016 18:10 (ten years ago)

it's also often kinda funky! I like the funk but I know that it's not popular with many folks, especially when combined with the zingy acidity you mention.

trickle-down ergonomics (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 5 April 2016 18:12 (ten years ago)

I have usually really disliked Sumatra, but have never had (or even seen it, tbh) from a roaster I really like.

human life won't become a cat (man alive), Tuesday, 5 April 2016 18:18 (ten years ago)

feel like a lot of good 3rd wave roasters steer clear of it due to the aforementioned funk

trickle-down ergonomics (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 5 April 2016 18:34 (ten years ago)

Apparently the humid climate in Indonesia poses some challenges to the drying practices favored by most specialty coffee buyers:
