what they really need to do (and are currently fielding plans for) is drill a second tunnel under the bay. and who's gonna pay for that.

BART loses money every year, and has been overburdened for years as well. this is what happens when people don't want to accept rate increases.

Hello, welcome to the planet Earth where *extremely* few public transportation systems run at a fare-based profit:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farebox_recovery_ratio#Farebox_ratios_around_the_world

BART actually rates pretty well in the USA.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Thursday, 17 March 2016 17:51 (ten years ago)

Scratch that, BART rates #1 in fare-based profit across all American municipal transit agencies and a close second to Amtrak.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Thursday, 17 March 2016 17:54 (ten years ago)

not arguing with any of that! that they're the least under-funded doesn't obviate the fact that they need more money. every system could use more investment, including BART.

in case anyone missed this

his house is half a block from my apartment; since he's moved in, there are two guys, presumably armed, sitting in an SUV parked outside 24 hours a day staring down every single person who walks down 21st street. I remember being impressed when he moved to mission central that he wanted to live among the plebs, but as it is turning out, he doesn't

Milton Parker, Thursday, 17 March 2016 18:02 (ten years ago)

Οὖτις, Thursday, 17 March 2016 18:07 (ten years ago)

the main problems with BART are:
1. it's too expensive -- it's cheaper to drive from the East Bay to SF than to take BART, except for maybe the 9 to 5 ppl that work downtown (granted there are a lot of them). I don't think I've taken BART in over 2 yrs?
2. it stops running well before bars close.

sarahell, Friday, 18 March 2016 15:50 (ten years ago)

xpost Oh yeah, right...huh. I think we'll have to wait for late April or May! Pretty much all these weekends coming up I'm either booked for other things or out of town visiting my folks or going to Seattle for EMP.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 18 March 2016 15:58 (ten years ago)

How do we convince vegemitegirl to come to this

just1n3, Friday, 18 March 2016 17:00 (ten years ago)

Sorry To Be The Bearer Of Bad Poos (Leee), Friday, 18 March 2016 18:34 (ten years ago)

(Sorry Ned.)

Sorry To Be The Bearer Of Bad Poos (Leee), Friday, 18 March 2016 18:34 (ten years ago)

WELL JEEZ

Ned Raggett, Friday, 18 March 2016 18:42 (ten years ago)

That said IT SHOULD BE NOTED...

That VG is in fact coming to town with her guy for the Holy Holy show at the Fillmore at the end of April, Friday April 29th:

http://concerts.livenation.com/tony-visconti-woody-woodmanseys-holy-san-francisco-california-04-29-2016/event/1C00504BD1726CDB

Now I'm not saying you should all go to the show. (But you should all go to the show.) There had been talk of doing some sort of meetup for dinner or whatever beforehand in the vicinity. Given it'll be a Friday night and etc.etc. we should be careful with our planning but...?

Ned Raggett, Friday, 18 March 2016 18:44 (ten years ago)

dosa a block away has a gin and tonic i dream about! also festa in japantown mall is the weirdest bar.

kurt schwitterz, Friday, 18 March 2016 18:45 (ten years ago)

Dosa is awesome

Οὖτις, Friday, 18 March 2016 18:54 (ten years ago)

Well maybe we can do that!

Ned Raggett, Friday, 18 March 2016 18:56 (ten years ago)

I am tentatively into this plan altho it does present certain logistical issues for me

Οὖτις, Friday, 18 March 2016 18:58 (ten years ago)

omg yes!!!

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 18 March 2016 18:59 (ten years ago)

Yeah sorry Ned, <3 u, but going into the city at night is usually a pain in the ass for me so I'm only going if VG is there

just1n3, Friday, 18 March 2016 21:39 (ten years ago)

P.s Ned was it you who posted julien baker's tiny desk concert? Bc I bought the album after that and holy shit it might be some of the most heart wrenching music I've ever heard.

just1n3, Friday, 18 March 2016 21:42 (ten years ago)

Well sounds like VG is going to be there so hey. :-D Antipodean greatness! I don't know if I posted that one in particular...

Ned Raggett, Friday, 18 March 2016 22:23 (ten years ago)

fwiw my wife has tentatively agreed to this dinner-at-Dosa thing on the 29th (dunno if we can afford the Bowie tribute show, altho it sounds great)

Οὖτις, Friday, 18 March 2016 22:32 (ten years ago)

kurt schwitterz, Friday, 18 March 2016 22:48 (ten years ago)

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 6 April 2016 03:11 (ten years ago)

You are sweetness enough, my dear.

Jenny Ondioleeene (Leee), Wednesday, 6 April 2016 16:49 (ten years ago)

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 6 April 2016 17:03 (ten years ago)

Yup, plan still on AFAIC.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 6 April 2016 17:14 (ten years ago)

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 6 April 2016 21:17 (ten years ago)

Οὖτις, Thursday, 7 April 2016 18:49 (ten years ago)

that is some awful facial hair

sarahell, Thursday, 7 April 2016 18:51 (ten years ago)

Isn't this what tasers are supposed to be for? Ffs the dude had a knife, not a gun.

just1n3, Thursday, 7 April 2016 20:50 (ten years ago)

SFPD is so shitty, it's mindboggling

Οὖτις, Thursday, 7 April 2016 22:06 (ten years ago)

Is the DOSA location the one on Fillmore? And what time was the plan?

Jenny Ondioleeene (Leee), Friday, 8 April 2016 23:10 (ten years ago)

idk but if ppl wanna get to the Bowie thing at 8pm better make reservations for at least 6pm

Οὖτις, Friday, 8 April 2016 23:12 (ten years ago)

which I doubt I'll be able to make but not really sure at this point

Οὖτις, Friday, 8 April 2016 23:13 (ten years ago)

Yeah I was going to leave it to everyone else to suggest the best time, depending. 6 pm works for me, but no problem with later if that's more convenient -- the doors are 7 pm, the show starts at 8, but there is an opening act, Jessica Morgan. So there's room to fudge a bit.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 8 April 2016 23:30 (ten years ago)

6pm should work for us

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 8 April 2016 23:31 (ten years ago)

and yes, Dosa on Fillmore

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 8 April 2016 23:31 (ten years ago)
