I listened to this album twice and thought it was super dull, then comparing this impression to the slightly purple raptures on the thread - raptures I am often guilty of myself and am open to being called out on - gave rise to exasperation. The final straw before raising the alarm was a hilariously overwritten Crack Magazine review, far funnier than anything polled here.

But then this thread got made and sure I found it superficially funny and no I don't think Whiney is a bigot for it*, but it certainly takes things to a level I hadn't foreseen. Criticisms (mostly by linee) on the actual KAS thread are much more what I was hoping for.

I don't think snark and zinging should be excised from the ILM discourse - of course codes of oppression should be considered at each turn but this strikes me as a fairly straightforward attack on far-flung praise for something that isn't particularly mindblowing on a theoretical level. Which is curmudgeonly, sure, and which questions listener agency, sure, but isn't ILM rooted on questioning and challenging listener agency, as well as championing it?

Avant-garde electronica by women, poc, queers? Christ, there's loads out there, so much of it brilliant, so much of it amongst my favourite music of recent years. My suspicions about KAS aren't about attacking 'female-shaped' music, they're about challenging a discourse that is unrestrainedly boosting something I think is dull.

*I'm not a minority (mild aspie aside) so my opinion counts less but w/e
