i like a glass coffee pot i just hate drinking coffee from glass

i want coffee to be a blackish liquid and it reminds me it's lighter brown

yah i have a white ceramic mug (gifted to me by ~in orbit~ many years ago in fact) that makes my cof look pale so i leave it for supposed to be pale drinks like tea and put my cof in dark opaque mug equal to the task

i can't hold a glass of coffee it's too hot

Glass seems to conduct hear better than ceramic, so I burn my lips on a glass cup. Ceramic all the way!

Glass is OK for cold coffee, I should point out. I like seeing it in the glass.

Feel like I read something recently in a NYer article about someone well-known who had started out researching things like how the kind of cup you drink out of affects the taste of your coffee, but purely on a perceptive level (e.g. white ceramic made it taste stronger and less sweet or something).

obv I can google this but prefer for thread to explain me "third wave" irt coffee

btw iirc I "introduced" StevieD to pour over not because I am "third wave" (I don't think? obv I don't know what that is) but because I am old and spent many years single and it was just the non-fancy way to make a cup o' joe back in the olden days

I use cheap plastic pour-over thingy and cheap bulk filters from Amazon and pre-ground "Pleasant Morning Buzz" from Whole Foods and yes I am going to die from these things, but oh hey WE ALL GONNA DIE AND PLASTIC PLASTIC POUR OVER WILL NEVER BE "THE" REASON so I lose zero sleeps over this

yeah but do you use a gooseneck kettle at an optimal water temperature, starting with a small pour to bring out the "bloom" and then pouring evenly and slowly in a circling or swirling motion? xp

I do have a gooseneck kettle. I do not use proper h20 temp or swirling technique. I do love a really great coffee but in my house the saying is "you need coffee to make coffee" so just getting in a decent cup first thing without thinking is a priority

i often make the catch-22 of coffee joke in the morning at work when people fumble with the coffeepot. partially because people relate, and mostly because it's the only joke i can tell before having coffee

glass is great for iced coffee, otherwise i go with a ceramic mug

what do people think about those Keep Cups that are everywhere

imo they're straight garbage - the 'closer' thingie doesn't actually keep liquid from spilling out, plus the plastic material is so thin it doesn't keep the coffee warm. totally mystified how they have become so popular that even i have one and i hate it.

there are so many austrialian coffee places in new york now have no idea why

The standard of australian espresso-based coffee making is heaps better (in my opinion). Consistency across baristas in a coffee shop, they make them faster and they don't scald the shit out of the milk like many places in NYC/USA.

My bf scalds the milk and I tell him it doesn't need to be ultra hot but he thinks that's how it's done! And he wonders why the coffee is better when I make it!

not a fan of the keep cups -- if you are going to have a reusable vessel for coffee why would you want something that looks like a disposable cup?

I don't like keep cups either but I think they deliberately resemble disposable cups so they fit into the coffee making process in cafes

I drink my morning latte macchiato out of a pint glass. Overheating the milk accidentally totally spoils my morning, to say nothing of my drink.

Lately I find my taste has suddenly moved against drinking milk-based espresso drinks -- caps, flat whites, etc. Maybe it's digestion, but I just don't like consuming all that steamed, froth milk anymore.

I can't have more than one a day -- straight espresso after the morning.

I made myself two cups yesterday (one morning & one evening), & also grabbed a doppio after lunch, which must be the least I've consumed on a weekday all year

(Ftr I have already had 2.5 cups today... & I have to work until midnight)

i have one cup in the morning and one cup before i work out if im woking out, occasionally i have another cup at some point during the day for entertainment purposes
