I'm turning into one of those people who post pictures of their kids, but never themselves.

I have made a rule for myself that I need to (roughly) alternate. I have to come up with a genuine non-throwaway non-kid-related post for every kid-related post. I don't know if that makes me more annoying or less annoying as a friend, but there it is.

Family members always SAY they are clamoring for more kid material, but one never knows whether that's how they feel or just one of those Things One Says. Meanwhile I want to broadcast the message to childless amigos that that's not the only thing I have going on in my life.

But really, small children DO require a big chunk of your time and energy and attention, if you're doing it right (and in my case, the whole special-needs thing is a mega-time-suck). It would be dishonest of me to present my life as a string of concerts, cocktails, clubs, and trading bon mots with the glitterati.

If my choices are "accurately reflect your experience" and "don't post pictures of kids at the beach," the result would be silence.

most memes i completely ignore, but yesterday some guy i don't know but am nevertheless "friends" with on facebook posted a picture of dr. king with text where "dr. king" upbraids black people for voting for clinton instead of sanders. my god it is the most horrible thing ever. am strongly tempted to make some comment on it re: posthumously baptizing anne frank, but i don't know the guy well enough to get into a fight over it, and i don't care about it enough to actually unfriend him over it. it just bugs the shit out of me, is all.

one of my black-sheep conservative cousins (who i haven't put on ignore yet) posted a "socialist monopoly" meme. which is profoundly dumb because the original idea for monopoly came from socialists making a board game to explain why capitalism sucked. sigh. i usually stay out of these things because the rest of my relatives can be generally relied upon to cow them into submission but in this case i couldn't help but explain the history of "the landlord's game".

i've been trying to combat all the political bs by only posting nice things about my friends (i've moved all the self promo over to another page). it's hard! but rewarding!

lately i pretty much just spam people with retro photos from the year 2000 and click like when people are doing something that makes them happy or gets the certification they've been working toward or whatever. almost everybody who posts conservative BS got unfriended or unfollowed a long time ago. it's an okay time over there.
