No the content doesn't, but the headline just sounds trenchant as written.

Toof Seteltha (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 26 February 2016 18:28 (ten years ago)

by which I mean it could be the headline for an onion article in which Hawking is being uncharacteristically trenchant to a humorous degree. and it struck me that way in the context of a news aggregator.

oh yeah that's fair

Well, as we're talking about a woman, Sanders supporters are probably threatening to euthanize her as we speak.

Marketing anything as unpleasant is probably a mistake.

jmm, Wednesday, 18 May 2016 20:06 (ten years ago)

Comforting lies guy has to work overtime and he's not even getting paid by the looks of it. Unpleasant truth guy basically gets to read blogs at his desk all day.
Maybe he should've worn a tie idk

that's an average of over 3km of jogging per day over a lifetime. If I managed to do that I would totally want it to go on my tombstone.

what Clinton says hasn't necessarily got fuck to do with fuck. There she and her friend Don have common ground.
I'm not saying there aren't areas where he wouldn't be more damaging than she would be.

The AR-15 is rapidly becoming the shining symbol of our glorious freedom to go on a killing rampage against anyone we don't like, including whoever is standing next to them.

http://neil-gaiman.tumblr.com/post/43087620460/i-was-reading-a-book-about-interjections-oddly

I was reading a book (about interjections, oddly enough) yesterday which included the phrase “In these days of political correctness…” talking about no longer making jokes that denigrated people for their culture or for the colour of their skin. And I thought, “That’s not actually anything to do with ‘political correctness’. That’s just treating other people with respect.”

Which made me oddly happy. I started imagining a world in which we replaced the phrase “politically correct” wherever we could with “treating other people with respect”, and it made me smile.

You should try it. It’s peculiarly enlightening.

I know what you’re thinking now. You’re thinking “Oh my god, that’s treating other people with respect gone mad!”

Happy Valentine’s Day.

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 6 July 2016 14:50 (nine years ago)

I have no idea who would show up to a city council meeting in Windsor Heights other than cranky old people, tbh

mh, Wednesday, 6 July 2016 14:52 (nine years ago)

"Maybe they stay inside because they don't have any sidewalks to walk on! Huh? You ever thought of that old man?"

pplains, Wednesday, 6 July 2016 15:23 (nine years ago)

I grew up in a neighborhood with no sidewalks and it was really shitty. I probably would have spent more time walking/biking places if there had been sidewalks.

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Wednesday, 6 July 2016 15:28 (nine years ago)

19.6% are under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 20.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years.

it's a suburb of about 5k people with no schools of their own, a small retail strip that's mostly known for being a 25mph speed limit trap, big box retail in the corner (wal-mart, sam's club, and a large grocery store) that divides the main residential area from the single park, which is mostly known because it's on another suburb's trail system. I think the park is next to the older houses/apartments/town homes that the few younger people might actually live in

I guess there's a demographic that thinks "affordable house, lower taxes, raise some kids here" but even that group is aging out.

tbh a lot of people forget it's a suburb

I was wondering how long it would be before A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift was suggested as the ideal model for future policy.
