WTF with Marc Maron (it's a podcast)

I just caught up on a couple I'd not gotten to yesterday: Flea/Trujillo and Herb Alpert. Maron's musician interviews are definitely less painful now than they once were.

Only partway into Friedkin (2+ hours long), but really into it.

Is that the longest single WTF episode? It's up there, and it really started to overstay its welcome by the end (Jesus stuff), but I loved when Friedkin went off on 35mm print fetishists.

a funny part is how little marc makes of friedkin saying he used to run practice w the 80s celtics! that is amazing & rad but obv marc has no ability to engage w it on any level, which is fine to be fair

I prefer a host who doesn't care about that kind of stuff

The Herb Alpert one was good and so was the Michael Rapaport one, because they both talked so much that they blocked Marc out.

Friedkin was that way, too. Great interview, like an entire audiobook at 2.5 hours.

I can't believe I made it through the whole Al Lubel interview. The guy was so insufferable that even Marc let out a little fake muffled laugh at one line toward the end of the interview as if to say "get the fuck out of my garage".

That dude's still around?! Man. I remember his bit being like a singing intro to his act and his strongest line was "it's a good thing my parents didn't name me Lou because then I'd be Lou Lubel..."

I've only been dipping in when there's a guest I'm interested in, and I'm very interested in the John Lurie one coming up.

really touching seeing his loneliness and need for connection creep out from behind that curmudgeonly wall. his Lyme disease stories were terrifying. can't imagine living with that.

Maron says a few times in the introduction "We had a dinner together afterwards" and so I was expecting Lurie to punch him out or something.

Today's show blew my mind - I somehow didn't realize that these issues exist for people, or at least that said issues can last an entire lifetime.

I use Pocket Casts instead of the Apple Podcasts app and I vastly prefer the experience fwiw.

I use Pocket Casts for android. It's not perfect, but worth the 3 or so bucks.

I lost my iPod right after Christmas. 6th Gen Classic. I used it every day for years for all my music and podcasts and everything, with just some shitty $5 case to protect it that apparently rendered it invincible. It's still somewhere in the house, but god knows where.

Player FM for android also works well for me

Only drawback of Pocket Cast vs iOS podcast app is that you can't search for a name and find all the podcasts that person has done. More than outweighed by not being a giant piece of shit like the iOS podcast app.

Folks will probably disagree with me, but I feel like Marc's doing fine and trying to warm things up. I don't know if Julia really is into being interviewed.

The new Louis CK one on the other hand is pretty interesting. At least the half I heard. Basically a Horace and Pete making-of.

Honestly can't stomach her music at all, but I'll be interested to hear from her.

I love her music, but I had to turn the interview off after Maron tells her about how he found a youtube video where a guy taught him how to play The Boxer on guitar because he wanted to learn fingerstyle
