Fuuuuuck.

gamelan ankylosing spondylitis (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 22 February 2016 04:26 (ten years ago)

How she didnt think she'd lose her job doing that I have no idea.

Interesting. No, wait, the other thing: tedious. (Trayce), Monday, 22 February 2016 04:44 (ten years ago)

The depressing thing about the comments to that piece tho is shit like "you get free healthcare, suck it up, thats a luxury!" and at that, I want to bang my head at the idea thats a luxury for americans.

Interesting. No, wait, the other thing: tedious. (Trayce), Monday, 22 February 2016 04:48 (ten years ago)

she did lose her job

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 22 February 2016 04:49 (ten years ago)

sorry misread, it is late and i am tired

but from her timeline it seemed like suicide by cop rather than she was surprised

What a maroon. And the ps ends with a paypal where you can send her money now that she just got herself fired from the job she hates!

i believe that (s)he is sincere (forksclovetofu), Monday, 22 February 2016 05:04 (ten years ago)

"They actually want me - a recent grad with little work experience - stay a whole year in customer service when I should be getting paid good money to write funny tweets! And the indignity of my bosses rejecting my submissions to the suggestion box!"

Je55e, Monday, 22 February 2016 05:18 (ten years ago)

She killed my sympathy early on with her dismissal of being a lawyer or teacher as too cliche.

Je55e, Monday, 22 February 2016 05:19 (ten years ago)

cool reaction

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 22 February 2016 05:39 (ten years ago)

her job may be stupid, but if it's something the company feel they want done, they need to be willing to pay a living wage for it. i mean nobody needs to eat strawberry milkshakes, preparing them is basically harmful to society in the grand scheme of things, but if burger king wants them made, and wants people to spend their day doing it, then i believe they should pay the shake-makers enough to live on.

dude's scumbag victim-blaming/subject-changing tweets are also pretty impressive. i don't know how they rank by the standards of scumbag worthless-app CEO mentality tweets, but i wanted to punch him in the face. his photo may also play a part in that though tbh.

shandemonium padawan (Doctor Casino), Monday, 22 February 2016 05:45 (ten years ago)

There's some naivete in the open letter for sure but her take home pay is less than what I pulled in at an entry level job at 25 and it was only enough for me cos I lived with my parents.

Add in inflation and I get her gripe. CEO could have taken it as an opportunity to dialogue with a concerned employee but instead decided to show how big his dick was.

you are no man. take the balls. (Neanderthal), Monday, 22 February 2016 06:37 (ten years ago)

oh jeez and she lives in California? that salary there, good lord.

you are no man. take the balls. (Neanderthal), Monday, 22 February 2016 06:51 (ten years ago)

The pay is astonishingly poor esp considering its in tech, which even at entry level should be at least better than min wage (and I wont start on min wage in the US, yeesh). She did undermine her argument with things like saying she lived alone - no one does that on low wages, its just impossible (it certainly is where I live, and min wage here is like $16 an hour at least).

Interesting. No, wait, the other thing: tedious. (Trayce), Monday, 22 February 2016 08:40 (ten years ago)

Like as a comparison, 7/11 in Aus have just been hauled over the coals for paying some migrant student workers $10 an hour, and thats BAD.

Interesting. No, wait, the other thing: tedious. (Trayce), Monday, 22 February 2016 08:41 (ten years ago)

I get her gripe, but yeah "I didn't want to drown in student loans or be a cliche, so instead of teaching for a roughly middle-class salary, I took a job in a capricious industry in the most expensive city in the country for less than I'd make at any given retail job in the hopes I could do something fun down the road" isn't going to garner a lot of sympathy. Ditto her pity party story about the co-worker who moved to a place that isn't obscenely expensive. Disappointment that you don't make enough to be one of the young people pushing established residents out of their neighborhoods isn't a good look.

Her situation is less an indictment of Yelp than the lack of a comprehensive welfare state or guaranteed minimum income in this country. The "customer support team" at Yelp (based on my interactions) are the bottom-rung call center salespeople who push the Yelp scam on businesses - that's not a tech job.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Monday, 22 February 2016 09:05 (ten years ago)

Both/and, not either/or. She's terrible, politics are terrible, capitalism is terrible, Yelp is terrible.

This woman's job and pay do seem to suck, and I feel for her even as I'm thinking "you could def live somewhere comfortably with roommates at your age," but I'm pretty sure she wrote this letter so that she'd get fired because she was a little to scared to just outright quit on her own. Some people, I'd say a lot of people, just need that kind of push.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 02:41 (ten years ago)

She's effed getting another job in media now though.

Interesting. No, wait, the other thing: tedious. (Trayce), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 02:46 (ten years ago)

Oh she'll probably just go to law school now

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 03:24 (ten years ago)

This is in all seriousness why I support a basic income. Jobs are bullshit.

basically what happened is she yelp'd YELP

Please shorten thread title. I suggest omitting either "people that" or "that YELP".

Three Word Username, Wednesday, 2 March 2016 09:32 (ten years ago)

two weeks pass...

A local store has a one-star review from a woman who's mad because they wouldn't trade her too-small Harley Quinn sweatshirt that she purchased elsewhere straight up for a different size off their wall. The nerve of this store to not trade your used sweatshirt from Hot Topic for a new one.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Saturday, 19 March 2016 01:37 (ten years ago)

I'm struggling my shoulders at that

kinder, Wednesday, 30 March 2016 11:00 (ten years ago)

I will throw my post on the ground and leave

Toof Seteltha (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 30 March 2016 13:48 (ten years ago)

Who the fuck throws their food on the ground, what is he, six months old?

Interesting. No, wait, the other thing: tedious. (Trayce), Thursday, 31 March 2016 00:50 (ten years ago)

exactly

Toof Seteltha (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 1 April 2016 00:48 (ten years ago)

wow this guy's yelp account is a treasure trove

"Once we were done eating and our plates were cleared Michelle came back out on the floor. Looked over at us and just walked off. We waited for 10 minutes with no one around and we eventually had to ask the bartender for the check. He printed the bill and suddenly Michelle appears again! Brought us the check smiles and all like I was going to congratulate her or thank her. I left her no tip and wrote "you must be fucking kidding" on the tip line."

Guayaquil (eephus!), Friday, 1 April 2016 01:12 (ten years ago)

HAHA! All I can say is this was an insult to A) Seafood, and B) Restaurants.

The food was beyond salty. As much as it was, a suitable reaction is "Oh grand I get fish with my salt!"

human life won't become a cat (man alive), Friday, 1 April 2016 01:16 (ten years ago)

if he's choosing to brag about these behaviors i shudder to think what bad things he does that he does not think are cool enough to post on social media platforms

#amazing #babies #touching (harbl), Friday, 1 April 2016 01:17 (ten years ago)

And personally being a fan of tequila I know the difference between Jose and Sauza and Cazadores and 1800.

#amazing #babies #touching (harbl), Friday, 1 April 2016 01:21 (ten years ago)

The restaurant is dim and poorly lit. It is clean however. There never isn't much of a wait.

Interesting. No, wait, the other thing: tedious. (Trayce), Friday, 1 April 2016 02:28 (ten years ago)

Its prob been said on here before but there should be a Yelp for Yelpers.

Interesting. No, wait, the other thing: tedious. (Trayce), Friday, 1 April 2016 02:28 (ten years ago)

wonder if he made his family wait to partake in holiday festivities as he penned that scathing review on 12/24/2015
