You know me well. How about go to a club and actually have some fun fuckos?
― Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 17 February 2016 22:30 (ten years ago)
But yeah, looked at the line-up today expecting some great stuff, and my jaw dropped, but in reverse.
― Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 17 February 2016 22:31 (ten years ago)
I think the area I'm moving to is in Seven Dials, but I'm not sure where the borders are.
Is anyone going to see the Ex at the Hope & Ruin in April or the Downtown Boys at Green Door Store in May? Because if so I will probably see you there.

7 dials is good, pretty handy for getting to most places, but also easy to get out of brighton from there too.
will definitely be at the ex! always end up a shameful sweaty mess at their gigs though, you might not get a welcome hug
― François Pitchforkian (NickB), Thursday, 18 February 2016 17:10 (ten years ago)
My flat's about 5 mins away from where the Ex are playing which I'm quite pleased about. I haven't seen them in a few years now, so it's great timing.

Will be at both of those badboys
― lilcraigyboi (Craigo Boingo), Thursday, 18 February 2016 17:53 (ten years ago)
Will probably be at one if not both.
― Chewshabadoo, Friday, 19 February 2016 10:14 (ten years ago)
Poo! I didn't realise you were moving to Brighton! Was having a quick look at this thread as we're thinking of visiting briefly as a part of a roughly-sketched-out-on-the-back-of-a-fag-packet plan to drive around bits of southern England later this year after a visit to That London. Would be good to meet up with you and Lady Poo (and other Brighton ILXors, naturally) if we do this.
― ailsa, Friday, 19 February 2016 10:42 (ten years ago)
That really does have to be high on the "ILXor names that must never break through into real life" list.
― Andrew Farrell, Friday, 19 February 2016 11:44 (ten years ago)
(I am not in Brighton, much, but I miss it)
It amuses me to use it, because I am puerile. I have never used it irl (though I do recall a map at an ATP once on which you had written Poo Chalet)
― ailsa, Friday, 19 February 2016 12:11 (ten years ago)
Well I'm here, but already got a problem... the flat we rented is basement and the landlords live upstairs, and this morning the agent called to say they'd reported smelling smoke and that it's a no smoking flat, including the outdoors patio. Might've been an idea to mention that, or even put it in the contract, before renting to us? Fucking wanker estate agents.
― Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 17 March 2016 10:14 (ten years ago)
It's not even in the fucking Rightmove advert that it's no smoking (it's still on the site), cos we wouldn't have called if it was. Pricks.
― Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 17 March 2016 10:28 (ten years ago)
As much as I can't stand the smell of the smoke myself, if it's not in writing anywhere there's nothing they can do as far as i know, with the expection of giving you the legal notice period.
Perhaps you could negotiate a rent decrease for any inconvenience of you having to smoke away from the property if you want to keep them on side?
― Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 17 March 2016 11:51 (ten years ago)
Hmm that may depend on what is being smoked, although there was no mention of that in the phone call.
I think we're going to see if we can get out early. iirc there was some clause about giving 2 months notice, but I'm at work now so I can't check until I get home. We'll be down £500 estate agent parasite fees but I just cancelled the washing machine order I just made so there's £300.
I'm so pissed off about this. The agent said no pets when I looked around it, and we have cats. He actually phoned me back later and said the landlord had said he didn't mind cats after all so I could have the place after all. Why couldn't he have just, I dunno, been boiled alive in a barrel of his own piss instead, and we could've found another place?
― Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 17 March 2016 11:58 (ten years ago)
Oh man, that was basically what happened to me when I moved here - landlord works upstairs rather than lives there, we'd specifically said to the agency we wanted somewhere that allowed smoking, guess who comes down to tell us it's a no-smoking property? However he did relent eventually when told that the agency had sold it to us as a smoking flat... PLUS it's unfurnished, even the curtains are mine, so what exactly is smoking gonna do to the place?
I think these days most agencies do have a clause where smoking being banned is the standard, and you have to get it in writing from your landlord that it's okay if you want to avoid getting shafted at the end of your lease? Not sure. Would be worth looking at the contract again, definitely.

Other option: turn to vaping.
― emil.y, Thursday, 17 March 2016 15:04 (ten years ago)
It's definitely not in the contract at all, my wife is at home and read through it when I told her. She is not in the right frame of mind to parse the legal stuff about breaking the contract early so I have to wait til I get home to go over that.
It's also an unfurnished flat, and it's almost entirely wooden floors, and no curtains. I think it's just they don't like the smell drifting up to their part of the house, what with the ban on smoking in the back yard as well.
I'd probably be OK just vaping tbh, we do have one. But my wife is majorly pissed off about this and actually went straight upstairs and smoked a cigarette outside their front door earlier (hey they didn't say anything about smoking on the street), and is not willing to try and compromise on it. She wasn't that keen on the flat to begin with though (I went down and viewed it on my own, but tbf she did pick the advert off Rightmove). She's talking about going to stay with her mum for a month or 2 if we can get out of the contract so we can save the money to pay for the fees/moving again in a few months.
― Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 17 March 2016 15:20 (ten years ago)
If it's not in the contract then there's nothing they can do to stop you, surely? Though I would guess they wouldn't want to renew the contract at the end of it.
― emil.y, Thursday, 17 March 2016 15:38 (ten years ago)
Heh I think we'd be OK with that tbh. Now it's like we're being monitored by our feudal overloads above. Wasn't too chuffed to find out the landlords lived upstairs to begin with. Just want to call it quits and get out and live somewhere else now.
― Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 17 March 2016 15:53 (ten years ago)
Fuck it though, if they won't budge on letting us out of the contract it'll just be round the clock 100dB Japanese noisepunk for the next 6 months.
― Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 17 March 2016 15:55 (ten years ago)
I imagine if you're smoking and they don't want you to, it'll be immediate notice from them? People who don't like it really don't like it (you'll have noticed)
― Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 17 March 2016 16:19 (ten years ago)
I'd be OK with them giving us notice to move out if we got to keep our deposit, which I suppose we would since legally we haven't breached the contract. I dunno, I'll talk about with [redacted] when I get home. This is not good timing though, her mental health is not great at the best of times tbh (I feel a bit iffy about revealing anything else about her online, don't think she'd appreciate it)
― Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 17 March 2016 16:26 (ten years ago)
Not spammed here with an event for, ooh, at least a month. But quite excited to have Emotional Rescue DJs playing at the monthly Sunday daytime party I'm involved in. Easter Sunday from 1pm until 9pm in The Hope. https://www.facebook.com/events/1710117989231405/
― Chewshabadoo, Sunday, 20 March 2016 22:50 (ten years ago)
We’ve now got an extra guest, Mark Ives from Woo doing a live set, getting really excited about this one.
― Chewshabadoo, Friday, 25 March 2016 14:24 (ten years ago)
Oh wow, haven't heard anything they've done in the last decade or so, but all those woo albums that have been reissued are great!
― François Pitchforkian (NickB), Friday, 25 March 2016 15:00 (ten years ago)
Would be great to catch up if you are free, I can text you set times on Sunday if time is precious.
― Chewshabadoo, Friday, 25 March 2016 17:06 (ten years ago)
yeah please, that would be great
― François Pitchforkian (NickB), Friday, 25 March 2016 21:41 (ten years ago)
Nick, Col. Poo, anyone else, if you fancy it me & Matt are among the DJs at Kollaps on Saturday - post-industrial disco, minimal wave, darkwave, EBM &c... It's downstairs at Al Duomo, 10pm until 3am.
― emil.y, Friday, 1 April 2016 14:12 (ten years ago)
I would fancy it, but my wife is going to the US for an undefined number of weeks (she hates our flat so much she wanted to get away for a bit anyway, then her elderly mum had a fall this week so she's going on Monday to look after her when she gets out of hospital) so I will be spending the weekend with her before she leaves.
After Monday I'll be all on my lonesome so will definitely be up for FAPs and ilxors DJing from then on though.
― Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Friday, 1 April 2016 14:15 (ten years ago)
Bring the wife! I'll let her come round and smoke in my flat. (In seriousness: totally understand wanting to spend time together instead, hopefully I will be okay for pubmeets another time, am still very wobbly and kind of dreading having to go out myself.)
― emil.y, Friday, 1 April 2016 14:20 (ten years ago)
Really looking forward to Saturday,
Next time I'm DJing is in the bar at Patterns on Sat 23rd April, probably for a couple of hours with a vocal disco and house angle. Optimo are doing 5 hours downstairs, so need to give a bit of contrast.
― Chewshabadoo, Friday, 1 April 2016 14:49 (ten years ago)

None of your lamestream crowd pleasers.
Well, not from me anyway, unless you bring a copy because I don't have it.

― Chewshabadoo, Monday, 4 April 2016 12:36 (ten years ago)
no, that didn't quite happen - by the time i crawled out into the light i'm pretty sure all the good stuff would have evaporated into the morning sun. that thing starts early! xp
― real orgone kid (NickB), Monday, 4 April 2016 12:37 (ten years ago)

― real orgone kid (NickB), Monday, 4 April 2016 12:38 (ten years ago)
Anyone up for a pre-Ex fap somewhere quiet on Wednesday early evening? Day before my birthday, no pressure though mind
― real orgone kid (NickB), Friday, 8 April 2016 19:22 (ten years ago)
Pre(ex) fap shout
― real orgone kid (NickB), Friday, 8 April 2016 19:23 (ten years ago)
I'm up for it, it can be my first FAP! I have to be sensible that night though because I'm working in London on Thursday. Which I'll probably forget long before the Ex come onstage.
― Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Friday, 8 April 2016 20:12 (ten years ago)
I could do a pint earlier in the evening, although I think I’m falling onto the Andy Stott side of the gig coin on Weds in this horribly formed metaphor.
― Chewshabadoo, Friday, 8 April 2016 21:51 (ten years ago)
fappy bump
anyone still up for this? if so, any suggestions for a pub? preferably somewhere quietish, maybe in the north laine? will be going straight from work, so food would be a bonus (more than happy with just chips though tbh)
kind of annoying that andy stott is on the same night, definitely would have gone to that otherwise
― real orgone kid (NickB), Tuesday, 12 April 2016 16:41 (ten years ago)
After Andy Stott talking a good game with his YMO talk, I was then rather unimpressed with the first track released from the LP, so I may not bother as I fancy a quiet week. Likewise I would be up for seeing The Ex if I wasn't in such a mood for a quiet week.
However, a couple of early beers tomorrow sounds like something that one does on a quiet week. Always a fan of the Brighton Beer Dispensary despite the so-so name, and they go OK pub food.
