keanu is a benediction, a blessing, a bestowance of cool breezes. keanu is the bodhisattva but he also confronts the bodhi, and grants him the space to annihilate himself inside the wave.

the world moves around keanu. when he moves at all, people claim that it is inauthentic and they sneer and poke at his ribs, but still the birds are fed.

i figure his woodenness works in certain roles because that's who he's often playing: a character who doesn't necessarily understand the script or the rules of the world he's been tossed into, repeats the lines in the voice of the character he's been given because there's nothing else to do, and eventually comes to realize his purpose is to simply add mass to the diegetic reality he's in so it changes the orbits of the others around him, and he's ok with that.

i don't think the world truly appreciates how fortunate it is to have had keanu and swayze appear together in the same filmspace.

well i guess it depends on the individual. the lake house was corny but i loved it for keanu. knock knock is a thriller/horror which isn't my typical type of movie. but the story was totally utterly stupid and the acting was lame from the whole cast. so if you're not normally down for romance movies, lake house still might be the worst.

John Wick 2 is playing at the drive-in out here, so of course, hey maybe I should see John Wick 1 first and omg...

I've rewinded the part where he reloads in the middle of shooting a guy at the club at least three times so far.

It's great at what it does and there really aren't enough movies in any genre that embrace that aim

It tickles my "appreciation of efficient reloading" gland, which I wasn't aware I had. Arguably this would make it an effective video-game movie.

JW2 is okay but pretty flabby and about 10X more ridiculous. I want to know if it's set in a libertarian utopia where all policing is handled via contract killing.

Idk but a friend once knocked on his door in L.A. doing some political fundraising and apparently he was exceedingly chill and nice.

I really dug JW2 - it's not as lean as the first movie, some of the set pieces are overlong but for the most part I think it's a worthy sequel & I liked it so much I saw it twice

What was the thing Peter Serafinowicz the Sommelier was wearing around his neck? It looked like a sink strainer

Somehow I missed the whole thing with stairs & descent first time round: literally every set-piece begins with or involves him "descending" - underground to the catacombs, staircases, escalators, elevators. Maybe too on the nose for some but I was into it.

And the "Reflections of the Soul" exhibition scenes looked fantastic I thought.

the Common & Keanu fight on the stairs, and in the train.... OMG SO GOOD

That sequence also contains the chillest gun fight ever

if John Wick 3 doesn't have Common return with the knife still in his chest, held in place by some kind of elaborate apparatus to keep him alive, i'll be vv disappointed.

Ruby Rose too - they have to keep pressure on each other's knives so they're always throwing knives/guns to each other.

I hope they are setting up Common to return, a la the Forest Whittaker character who helped John after being left in a similar state

I seen both films recently. I think they're okay but I liked that they concentrated so much on the action because it seems to me most big action films get bogged down in a load of character drama and plot that they can barely muster or pretend they care. Maybe it's because Keanu is one of the few stars outside East Asia that can carry that much action.
