There's a guy who'd welcome a 10,000 character limit.

On a Raqqa tip (ShariVari), Friday, 29 January 2016 21:14 (ten years ago)

Might be able to get his ideas across in three or four tweets then.

On a Raqqa tip (ShariVari), Friday, 29 January 2016 21:14 (ten years ago)

i should qualify, he writes/edits a lot and has academic cred of some sort but i've talked to ppl who have lived basically in his neighborhood and know nothing of the dude

μpright mammal (mh), Friday, 29 January 2016 21:15 (ten years ago)

really a lot of people like to fucking rip into ppl in the most egregious ways; you just want to slap your palm on the desk and shout YOU ARE NOT DOING THE PEOPLE'S BUSINESS HERE

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 29 January 2016 21:46 (ten years ago)

most of these ppl end up looking pretty bad

lag∞n, Friday, 29 January 2016 21:47 (ten years ago)

generally a problem with the left and its interest in justice is it ends up attracting a lot of extremely self righteous unkind people who no one wld actual ever want to associate with

lag∞n, Friday, 29 January 2016 21:48 (ten years ago)

i just want justice and liberty and equality and the ability to be a total dick to everyone

μpright mammal (mh), Friday, 29 January 2016 22:00 (ten years ago)

but 2 ban them if they're a dick to me

Board academics of twitter aint got no jobs in the summer and are tired of reading after crushingly brutal course evals, so they don't bother reading Frost or Stoker and immediately agree with Kendizor. Stoker, Frost, and Erickson, all women, are called misogynists and rape apolgists.

big lol @ academics if this is true

Mordy, Saturday, 30 January 2016 01:34 (ten years ago)

self righteous unkind people

this sounds right but WHY unkind??, seems like most of the WARRIORZ i know are hella kind, it kinda goes w/ their interest in justice in the first place (say, justice-as-compassion)

j., Saturday, 30 January 2016 02:57 (ten years ago)

i think desire for justice is sometimes more about an interest in fairness and order than it is about actually caring about people, feel like the left attracts a lot of very heady people who have a deep investment in being right

having said that idk if you can truly be said to care about people if you dont desire justice for them, and of course im not claiming everyone fits that description or their arent shades of grey etc

lag∞n, Saturday, 30 January 2016 03:15 (ten years ago)

and of course the left has a long and often comic occasionally tragic history of internal ideological struggles

lag∞n, Saturday, 30 January 2016 03:16 (ten years ago)

occasionally ice pick

petulant dick master (silby), Saturday, 30 January 2016 03:31 (ten years ago)

sometimes gulag

lag∞n, Saturday, 30 January 2016 03:39 (ten years ago)

there's a kind of "moral absolutism" inherent to post-enlightenment politics of both the right and left (cf. reinhart koselleck's "critique and crisis") that makes compassion and justice not exactly opposites but not entirely overlapping either.

but "social compassion warrior" probably wouldn't catch on as well.

ryan, Saturday, 30 January 2016 03:47 (ten years ago)

idk I get confused whenever someone brings up the enlightenment. the way Twitter constantly streams real-time, seems like it's easier 'be right' than to be kind when talking politics

rap is dad (it's a boy!), Saturday, 30 January 2016 15:29 (ten years ago)

imo being right is goo

lag∞n, Saturday, 30 January 2016 15:55 (ten years ago)

d but we shd all try to be more complete ppl too

lag∞n, Saturday, 30 January 2016 15:56 (ten years ago)

but if theres a platform that tends toward owns and oneupsmanship thats ok twitter is not life

lag∞n, Saturday, 30 January 2016 15:57 (ten years ago)

or at least it shdnt be lol

Heh well played but even then yeah, there are better options than twitter for this, I mean twitter usage objectively makes u an awful person so why wouldn't u seek alternatives

the idea that twitter "makes" you do cliched twitter shit is silly imo. you can be cognizant of what people do and just choose not to. i don't have to quit having a couple beers a week because alcoholics exist. i don't have to leave ilx because lj exists (although it's tempting sometimes).

@ggreenwald
The percentage of professional punditry that is based on and shaped by fights with random people on Twitter is very high & rapidly growing.
