the whole overly smithers-y jonathan thing is kinda weak in general but u mad
― far beyond steendriven (some dude), Friday, 10 April 2009 16:23 (seventeen years ago)
jonathan was a pretty one note character--sort of a real life version of Disco Stu
― Mr. Que, Friday, 10 April 2009 16:25 (seventeen years ago)
they could have jonathan sing in every episode and it would be okay with me.
― lil waynes babymama (musically), Friday, 10 April 2009 16:26 (seventeen years ago)
yeah he's OBVIOUSLY more like disco stu than smithers, what was i thinking!?
― far beyond steendriven (some dude), Friday, 10 April 2009 16:32 (seventeen years ago)
smithers has at least three notes
― Mr. Que, Friday, 10 April 2009 16:32 (seventeen years ago)
is he really cut from the show? surely he'll be hired back next ep
― i like to fart and i am crazy (gbx), Friday, 10 April 2009 16:33 (seventeen years ago)
i guess some of the characters are getting into caricature territory, but the jokes are good so who cares
― Ømår Littel (Jordan), Friday, 10 April 2009 16:37 (seventeen years ago)
i still lol, i just want them to step their game up
― congratulations (n/a), Friday, 10 April 2009 16:40 (seventeen years ago)
Ha -- I was weirded out by the 50-episodes thing too, not in relation to the length of 30 Rock, but just because I'd always gotten the impression it was like a long-running weekly dud of a show. (I mean, the implication at the beginning was that they had a long-running thing going that Jack/Tracy were shaking up, right?) But maybe "TGS with Tracy Jordan" shows count differently from "The Girlie Show."
I feel obligated to quote something: "I was just admonishing him for that earlier!"
― nabisco, Friday, 10 April 2009 17:28 (seventeen years ago)
What can I do? I’m on my grind. My kids are going to have so much money, my grandkids are going to play Lacrosse. Lacrosse, Liz Lemon.
― FREE DOM AND ETHAN (special guest stars mark bronson), Friday, 10 April 2009 17:29 (seventeen years ago)
yeah admonishing killed me
― far beyond steendriven (some dude), Friday, 10 April 2009 17:29 (seventeen years ago)
i took the 50 episodes thing as a joke about how often the show is actually on--ie it gets pre-empted a lot
― rip dom passantino 3/5/09 never forget (max), Friday, 10 April 2009 19:02 (seventeen years ago)
yeah exactly
― k3vin k., Friday, 10 April 2009 19:08 (seventeen years ago)
The "Kenneth, get me Showtime"/"WHAT????" exchange gets funnier the more I think about it. Ditto with "Hushed Rapings".
― lil waynes babymama (musically), Friday, 10 April 2009 19:37 (seventeen years ago)
yeah, kenneth getting emotional is always good. WHAAT?? WHY NOW????

"a certain black individual" = jenna is amazing
― FREE DOM AND ETHAN (special guest stars mark bronson), Sunday, 12 April 2009 11:53 (seventeen years ago)
But maybe "TGS with Tracy Jordan" shows count differently from "The Girlie Show."
This was my assumption. SNL does about 20 episodes a year (at least it has in the last few non-strike seasons), so if TGS were on the same schedule, they'd be hitting their 50th midway through the 3rd season -- definitely a couple of months ago, but not long enough ago to bother me.

― SORCEROUSES..roll on stage! (Pillbox), Monday, 13 April 2009 01:02 (seventeen years ago)
whoops, lol, that was meant for the "music video cliche" thread.
― SORCEROUSES..roll on stage! (Pillbox), Monday, 13 April 2009 01:03 (seventeen years ago)
this would be a few seasons back for both shows but did 'the wire' do the ikea-frustration joke before 30 rock?
― Philip Nunez, Monday, 13 April 2009 01:18 (seventeen years ago)
yes. I'm cycling through The Wire for a second time right now & there is a scene in the first season where McNulty drunkenly gives a half-assed attempt at IKEA assemblage before passing out.
― SORCEROUSES..roll on stage! (Pillbox), Monday, 13 April 2009 01:24 (seventeen years ago)
Maybe Jack will quit to start his own television studio and stringer bell will show up at NBC and suck all the fun out of TGS by not being amused by Tracy Jordan's antics. Then he will play soccer with Kenneth.
― Clay, Monday, 13 April 2009 01:32 (seventeen years ago)
the furniture assembly joke is a comedy staple.
― caek, Monday, 13 April 2009 01:40 (seventeen years ago)
the furniture assembly joke is such a comedy staple that the wire did it twice.
― a hoy hoy, Monday, 13 April 2009 08:54 (seventeen years ago)
ya but the wire showed how it's just a small hopeless cog in the great machine that is the modern american city

― Suggesteban Cambiasso (jim), Friday, 17 April 2009 02:43 (seventeen years ago)
it was a big ol' sledgehammer of a joke but i still loved Tracy's "just like that show on HBO...John Adams!"
― the devil's runes (reddening), Friday, 17 April 2009 07:25 (seventeen years ago)
I loved the Indigo Girls jokes too, which I only remembered about an hour ago.

"I don't need to read it. The whole thing is loosely based on an evening I spent with Isaiah Thomas."
This is a deceptive quote, because the Jenna/Jack exchanges owned this episode.
