Pit Bulls: What's the appeal?

there was a woman at Crate & Barrel today carting around her 11-week old brindle bulldog - if I weren't a macho bro it would have been total 'squee' time. I am now convinced that English Bulldogs are truly the greatest of all things.

Pit bulls and staffies are aight, but they're a good four or five spots down the list (1. English bulldogs 2. Catahoula Leopard Dogs 3. Manx Cats 4. scotch 6. Anatolian Shepherd Dogs 6. pit bulls & staffies)

I got a pit RIGHT when King posted.
Her name is banjo and i love her and we may need to get rid of her because the girlfriend is having a terrible rash reaction to something (likely dog) that required an emergency room visit today. Left eye is half swoll shut.
I'm stressing.

Also:
They're ugly (she's gorgeous)
ill-tempered (loves everybody)
dangerous (she's as soft as a marshmallow)
and, I imagine, probably smell quite bad (smells fine! better than most dawgs)

grrrrrr. my friend's sweet half-pit was killed yesterday by a vicious neighborhood dog (not a pit).

I'm very sorry to hear that.

That's awful. My downstairs neighbour has a scary little Staffy puppy and a 9 month old baby, doesn't strike me as a very sensible combination.

Any pet + baby is a bad idea if you're not in control of the situation. Even cats can fuck up a baby if they want to.

last night I dreamed I adopted a pit bull puppy

While we were away on holidays, Mister M got nipped on the finger by a dog, which was that well-known vicious breed THE LABRADOR, and some neighbours of my friend came over, and it turns out that their dog had bitten their daughter and still growls at her whenever she comes near. He is of that well-regulated breed the MINIATURE FRENCH POODLE.

Seriously, if my dog growled at my kids, it wouldn't be my dog for much longer.

Also, I just heard about this Michael Vick thing recently, and I'd like him killed, please.

I was visiting a friend last night, and another friend of his came over, scratched the host's pup on the head and got a snap for his troubles. A chihuahua/beagle size snap, but still - the friend in question had dogsat the little bugger a few times before, so it's not like he's a total stranger.

Badly behaved dogs are badly behaved!!

Followup: girlfriend came back negative for dog allergy and is off steroids and seems to be okay except for recurring swelling on hand.
We think we're okay. Banjo is now a very needy member of the family.
