genuinely curious why you think fb would be interested in acquiring twtr

idk, assume acquired by whoever is going to be its fate.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 January 2016 21:40 (ten years ago)

feel like they'd just get the most important devs and found another startup, the decent ones would go to other tech companies like snapchat or something, and yeah, the rest, who knows

F♯ A♯ (∞), Tuesday, 5 January 2016 22:04 (ten years ago)

The 10K thing seems like something I could live with as long as your feed is just the 140 character tweets with a link for more. I could just unfollow those that can't get everything in to 140 characters.

to stop Google doing so?

nashwan, Tuesday, 5 January 2016 22:28 (ten years ago)

fair point. google's acquisition spree(?) goes under the radar. they'd be up to no good with twtr. if goog could die off it'd be a fine time for the web

F♯ A♯ (∞), Tuesday, 5 January 2016 22:37 (ten years ago)

Wonder how low the stock will go. It's been quite a long slide to nowhere

ugh - 140 chracters = its about energy and concentration of content. I always feel I'll be there for an hour and it never happens.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 6 January 2016 14:53 (ten years ago)

i think a read more feature is kinda fine idk

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 January 2016 17:33 (ten years ago)

the real hedz will keep it short anyway

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 6 January 2016 17:38 (ten years ago)

i tried to make a poll about my 2016 style but both my options were considerably longer than the max character limit so now im all in favor of this change

-san (Lamp), Wednesday, 6 January 2016 17:47 (ten years ago)

Will be interesting to see how apps will implement it. I'm sure it will make the Twitter homepage even more unusable than it already is. You should never use it anyway.

Jeff, Wednesday, 6 January 2016 17:53 (ten years ago)

itll just be a lil link prob

click to read why read longer is bad

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 January 2016 18:51 (ten years ago)

I think the best possible outcome is ignoring one retweet from someone you follow instead of a series of fifty because they found some numbered story worthy of retweeting

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 6 January 2016 18:59 (ten years ago)

wonder if twitter will provide stats on how many opens those get

lag∞n, Wednesday, 6 January 2016 19:00 (ten years ago)

never thought of that before

But you can’t steal something that isn’t owned. You have to own something for it to be able to be stolen.

Yeah, that’s a fair point. But I feel like the skinning of a game is really important. Brenda Romero designed a game that was about the Holocaust, right, and the same set of rules could just be Candyland, and that’s the way we think about it too. It’s not supposed to be about people, but about these representations of them as cards and you’re collecting them because you like them, not because you want to own this person.

this dude is like, the entire justification for humanities education

$twtr has lost 67% of its value in the past 8 months. Their burn rate is reportedly $3M a day with no chance of seeing profit in the near or distant future.
