xp it's actually getting even worse for the moment - you should see those Amazon Prime "add-on" channels, it's absurd how many of these things that have popped up this past year. shoutout to exploitation.tv though!

Guys, HULU just put up season 6!

one year passes...

(i've just recently bought seasons 6 and 7 on dvd and watched them all 3 or 4 at a time)

Atlanta is not S7 of Community FYI

my partner peaced out on the last couple of seasons of Community and I kindof wish I had too, looking back on it

Arthur Funzonerelli (stevie), Monday, 30 July 2018 20:38 (seven years ago)

season six had some larfs

thanks koogs!

kinder, Monday, 30 July 2018 21:13 (seven years ago)

Ha, wow, I honestly didn't realize there was s6. I still love the first two seasons.

No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Monday, 30 July 2018 21:51 (seven years ago)

Oh, I mean 5 and 6 then. Was a good 3 year gap between the end of 4 and the last couple but I enjoyed them.

I hope Chevy never listens to the commentary tracks...

Odd how Troy ended up murdering that choir...

koogs, Monday, 30 July 2018 21:57 (seven years ago)

yeah, 5 and 6 are very good and funny for how beleagured the productions were. both of them are more like reboots than continuations - I think composer Ludwig Goransson was the only person who continued across all seasons? - and 6 is a separate reboot from 5.

16, 35, DCP, Go! (sic), Monday, 30 July 2018 22:14 (seven years ago)

The first half of season 5 is great, but it really loses some heart after Troy left. By the time they got to 6 it was really obvious that the whole thing was being propped up way after the end of its natural lifespan, and it just fizzled out at the end.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 31 July 2018 14:58 (seven years ago)

Natural lifespan of a community college education = 2 years

Srsly, s3 was hit and miss for me and I found s4 unwatchable. Any chance 5&6 would be worth it?

No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Tuesday, 31 July 2018 15:47 (seven years ago)

They're hit-and-miss but definitley better than S4. That season's a whole different deal, no Harmon and all that.

Daniel_Rf, Wednesday, 1 August 2018 11:25 (seven years ago)

Keith David and Paget Brewster, along with a (mostly) more relaxed tone make season 6 really great, imo.

one year passes...

Just finished season three again and wow it is so obvious that Donald Glover had a compressed schedule so they just filmed all the air conditioner repair school stuff in one go and slotted it around the rest.

Matt DC, Saturday, 18 January 2020 00:22 (six years ago)

Might also have been to film all of Goodman’s scenes.

Bidh boladh a' mhairbh de 'n láimh fhalaimh (dowd), Saturday, 18 January 2020 09:09 (six years ago)

three months pass...

So Donald Glover is finally taking part in a Community event, a charity virtual table read. Just not sure that the middle of a Monday afternoon work day for most of the country makes a ton of sense, but do they just assume no one is working?

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 8 May 2020 19:16 (six years ago)

The read through ep is on YouTube - enjoyable waste of a half hour at home and good to see Troy and Shirley back.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 20 May 2020 15:00 (six years ago)

i watched the table read, it was really great, especially when pedro pascal kept breaking at the end.

man, donald glover could've been the best comedic actor of his generation. he is...not the best musician of his generation, but he headlined coachella, so it seems to be working fine for him.

sleight return (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 16:14 (six years ago)

don't sleep on the comedic aspects of Atlanta

avellano medio inglés (f. hazel), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 16:18 (six years ago)

To his credit, Atlanta is so good its comedic aspects come in, like, third.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 20 May 2020 16:44 (six years ago)

he's great in atlanta (as an actor and the creative mind behind it), but i still think his greatest talent is in broader, more overtly comedic styles.

sleight return (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 16:47 (six years ago)

he could've been eddie murphy, but it's just as well that he chose to be donald glover instead (let's not talk about childish gambino)

sleight return (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 16:48 (six years ago)

he's 36. you guys are high.

Yerac, Wednesday, 20 May 2020 16:50 (six years ago)

idk what his age has to do with anything?

sleight return (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 17:01 (six years ago)

By 36 Eddie Murphy had hit the family movie stage of his career, fwiw. "Nutty Professor," et al.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 20 May 2020 17:01 (six years ago)

so high.

Yerac, Wednesday, 20 May 2020 17:04 (six years ago)

Wait, "so high" for pointing out the fact that Murphy was into his family flick phase by 36?

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 17:18 (six years ago)

high above me, she’s so lovely

sleight return (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 17:19 (six years ago)

yeah. this is so irritating i can't even gather the energy to type out how irritating and bad these throwaway takes on donald glover are because it could go on for paragraphs.

Yerac, Wednesday, 20 May 2020 17:23 (six years ago)

plus i am not even a "fan" so yeah... i don't know why I keep opening this.

Yerac, Wednesday, 20 May 2020 17:25 (six years ago)

Do ittttt

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 17:26 (six years ago)

when this thread began I doubt anyone here could have predicted much of what happened with Glover's career. "He could have been the next Eddie Murphy" is a weird take, since people in the future will be saying "he could be the next Donald Glover."

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 17:30 (six years ago)

Yeah, I have no problem with the current Donald Glover or his c/v.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 20 May 2020 17:37 (six years ago)

alls im sayin is that if he didn't have the ambition to become the world-conquering polymath that he is today and he decided to stick to his original milieu, he could've been equally successful. cause he's an outrageously talented comedic actor.

sleight return (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 17:39 (six years ago)

It's hard to say what his milieu is, exactly. Writer? Performer? Actor? Musician? Director? The weakest link on his resume seems to be movies. What made him (and really everyone) in Community so great is their gifts as team players. They're all "stars," even if by narrative default they orbit Joel McHale.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 20 May 2020 17:46 (six years ago)

Def. one of those shows where every character/actor could (and sometimes did) anchor an entire episode.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 20 May 2020 17:47 (six years ago)

having a successful/critically acclaimed prestige tv show that you created, star in and are the executive producer on, whose production gets delayed because you have to be Lando in a new Star Wars film, while also having a v successful music career (much more than Eddie Murphy ever had for a start) is a strange kind of failure.

COVID and the Gang (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 18:01 (six years ago)

ha, he definitely is a world-conquering success.

sleight return (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 18:04 (six years ago)

im just a guy who despises the music of childish gambino idly speculating about a world where donald glover stuck to comedy.

sleight return (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 18:10 (six years ago)

atlanta is better than community

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Wednesday, 20 May 2020 18:15 (six years ago)

Maybe, but they're totally (and tonally) different animals.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 20 May 2020 19:02 (six years ago)

decided to stick to his original milieu, he could've been equally successful. cause he's an outrageously talented comedic actor.

Before he became a sitcom actor on Community, he had already been part of a live sketch comedy group, a UCB improviser, a youtube writer/performer with millions of views, a salaried sitcom writer, a stand-up comedian, and had co-written a theatrically-released movie.

His original milieu, before all of those, was being in New York University's sketch team: it's fair to say that writing a couple of skits a month, which were performed anonymously by an ensemble at one free show monthly, exclusively to college students, would not have made him equally as successful if he'd kept it up for 18 years instead of doing a bunch of other things.
