honestly i agree, i regret what it turned into, much too late i'm afraid. if a mod wants to lock it i wouldn't mind at all. xp

imo bad threads must exist, it reminds us that not all threads must be read or posted in. when you think about clicking on one you can go for a walk in the park or something.

it's not only about hating on other threads, it's about hating on other people. that's why the user that posted most recently is included in the copy and paste. it's supposed to be about sick burns but really it's just pathetic and (more importantly, for ILX) boring. if you're gonna do a sick burn then go to the offending thread and make fun of the person there. i know nothing about zinging but i don't think this is how you do it

I think of it as going into a bar I used to frequent that had an older dude who liked to pontificate loudly about some political issues. I was into it sometimes, but if something especially dumb was in the news that day and I walked in and saw him I'd kind of hide in the other corner.

I really miss going there and seeing that dude and sometimes talk to friends about how ridiculous he could be.

Seeing as TWU can't actually remember the incident in question (or get my 'name' right) without recourse to looking at a thread that is no longer complete, I would like to correct his typically self-aggrandising version of events.

On an thread about three years ago, someone posted something about a dead person that was not (wholly) accurate, and which made worse a delicate and VERY complicated situation, not that long after this person had died, when the sense of loss was still pretty raw, for me at least. I asked a Mod to delete the post (I believe this is the only time I've ever made such a request in all the time I've been on ILX, fwiw). The post was amended to remove a name, and (I think) a few other posts around it were actually deleted. At this point, TWU barged onto the thread and started to aggressively insist that these 'censored' posts be reinstated. When it was pointed out to him that this was a pretty sensitive matter involving someone who was a friend to many people here, and that possibly this didn't really concern him, he told me to go fuck myself (I did, I admit, tell him to STFU, because I was just so incensed at the way he was trying to turn an act of decency on the part of the mod in question - protecting the memory of someone who, I think, was well liked here and elsewhere - into some bullshit quest for the 'truth' on ILX).

At no point today was I suggesting (and apologies to anyone who thought otherwise) that TWU was speaking ill of the dead directly - but his bombast, insensitivity and blinding self-regard offended me more than anything I've seen on ILX. His intervention only served to throw more attention onto something that could have passed by with much less incident or attention. I want the dead person in question to be remembered for much more than this tiny, unhappy aspect of their life, and I'm annoyed at myself that kicking off in this way means I've actually revived the whole sorry business (I think it was seeing TWU yet again resorting to aggressive insults when in conversation with Fred, an ILXOR who I think brings a lot to this board, that I 'snapped'). But I really will make this my last word on the subject. I plan to ignore TWU from now on, he can call me whatever shit he likes.
