i have no idea whether i'm coming or going at the moment, because some stupid bastard [1] decided we should try to do two magazines in one production week.

i will definitely be working on the 27th, but for how long depends on how much work i do between now and next thursday. however, a pint with you would be excellent, mr cowpat, and can easily be slotted in between bouts of swearing and panicking.

[1] er, me.

BYOBOYD

RJG (RJG), Friday, 16 December 2005 10:55 (twenty years ago)

Hello, Glaswegians, sorry to intrude on your BYOB party, but really I'm trying to reach Ally C.

Just wondering if you would like to do some kind of ILX0r supergroup gig exchange thing. We're putting together a gig at the Luminaire in beautiful downtown West London, possibly in late January, and wondered if you would like to come and play with us, and then you could set up a gig in Glasgow maybe in February and we could come up and play with you (and also bring a busload of London ILX0rs who want to try Glasgow because Ed has promised he will drive).

Anyway, let me know what you think - this email address works if you want to email me. Thanks!

Kate Classic (kate), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:07 (twenty years ago)

think ally might be on holiday, at the end of jan

RJG (RJG), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:10 (twenty years ago)

Ah. Thanks!

Well, maybe we can move the dates around. I will speak to our manager. Either way, please email when you see this, Ally C!

Kate Classic (kate), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:13 (twenty years ago)

BRWH people - i'm meeting some friends in the bruswick hotel bar at 10-30 (or a bit later if the X factor overruns!). see you later.

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 18 December 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

I'm Keith Hernandez.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 19 December 2005 00:20 (twenty years ago)

You're OK.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 19 December 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

where did you get that, ESTEBAN?

Found it while doing some personal research on the Glasgow Subway at the HiddenGlasgow.com forums. Part of a fantastic thread full of photos capturing the days prior to the Subway's closure for modernisation in 1977...which can be accessed if you click this link.

Just don't ask me why I was doing any sort of research on the Glasgow Subway.

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!, Monday, 19 December 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

Wow, that Hidden Glasgow website is great.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 19 December 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

Oh, for fuck's sake.

Allowing other people to influence any plans at all is a fucking disaster, even if you tell them exactly what your plans are first, with times of the day and everything.

I will now be about at lunchtime and early afternoon on 27th, not at any sensible time.

Please take this opportunity to tell me that suits nobody and I'm going to be a sad pathetic loser and not see any of you.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 13:01 (twenty years ago)

i should be able to meet you for a lunchtime pint.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 13:05 (twenty years ago)

I am afraid I won't get to Glasgow til the 28th : (

Cathy (Cathy), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

I wish I could looks at pictures of Glasgow from the 70s/80s all day instead of going back to work. Bah.

Ally C (Ally C), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 13:53 (twenty years ago)

did you go to an internet cafe for lunch?

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 13:57 (twenty years ago)

What is this thread about?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 14:01 (twenty years ago)

Yay, lunchtime pint! I have panto-with-parents duties at the Kings at 2.00 on the 27th, so a-pre-panto-pint would be an alliterative joy!

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

I guess I'll be in town from about 12. Somebody think of a handy pub for the Kings and the H3r4ld.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

I'm not sure such a thing exists.

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 21:08 (twenty years ago)

The entirety of Bath Street and most of Sauchiehall Street to thread!

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

(I can also do H3rald end of the world and jump on a train/bus/taxi down Bath Street when finished drinking - like I'm going to give up valuable drinking time walking down the street, ha)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 21:27 (twenty years ago)

I'll still be darn sarf, Aldo, by the way. Sorry I'll miss you.

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 21:28 (twenty years ago)

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 22 December 2005 00:21 (twenty years ago)

Also from Hidden Glasgow, these, which I heard sung in a karaoke pub in Paisley one night.

Not as good as that graffiti, but still, little is.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 22 December 2005 00:26 (twenty years ago)

Glaswegian Rhapsody!

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 22 December 2005 00:36 (twenty years ago)

I was sitting in a pub in Paisley one night when a bloke was setting up the karaoke - we were just going to finish our pints and leave and he started singing that version of American Pie and I was roffling so much I couldn't actually stand up even if I'd wanted to leave.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 22 December 2005 00:40 (twenty years ago)

Anyone going to the Sunno)))/Earth gig at the ABC2 on Feb 12th?
Tix are £12.50.
I will probably be going now that Ailsa kindly told me where the ABC was.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Thursday, 22 December 2005 00:42 (twenty years ago)

One would hope so.

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 22 December 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

Can somebody pick a pub for me on 27th? I would, but after fighting with my mother last night about Glasgow I've lost the will to live.

Her: "There's no such place in Glasgow as Hillhead, you're making it up to send me to the wrong place."
Me: "Aye there is. OK, try finding Charing Cross first."
Her: "There's no Charing Cross either. You're just having me on."
Me: "How about Kelvingrove?"
Her: Can't see that either. This has got all the areas of Glasgow on it, I can see Partick."
Me: "Right, that's a good start. So, move into town a bit - what does it say?"
Her: "Glasgow. It just says Glasgow."
Me: "What exactly are you looking at?"
Her: "A map of Glasgow."
Me: "Are you sure?"
Her: "Yes, an ordnance survey one."

1:250,000 was the scale. No wonder she couldn't find anything.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 23 December 2005 09:19 (twenty years ago)

the bastille

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 23 December 2005 09:34 (twenty years ago)

ailsa: will you be cross if i suggest somewhere like universal, or - better! - the station bar? which are really handy for me, but marginally less handy for the king's?

if so: start the bidding at the other end of sauchiehall street and we can agree on somewhere in the middle (but not that fucking sports bar thing).

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 24 December 2005 00:23 (twenty years ago)

Jumpin' Jacks or Campus.

jed_ (jed), Saturday, 24 December 2005 00:26 (twenty years ago)

Universal is good for me. Station Bar less so (location not as great for escaping up Bath Street). In fact, Universal strikes me as the best suggestion we are going to get.

Ally C might be coming too, I was putting the squeeze on a bit last night, though I'm not sure I was successful.

(cozen, the bastille is miles away! - well a few hundred yards out of the area of maximum convenience)

xpost - or the "fantastic" Yates, scene of last night's Xmas party night out from hell (which probably progressed to Jumping Jaks but I escaped before getting the chance to find out)

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 24 December 2005 00:37 (twenty years ago)

Campus is good in the middle of the afternoon when drinks are £1 and you can play pool and air hockey. However, when other people start arriving, not so good.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 24 December 2005 00:39 (twenty years ago)

universal does nice(ish) food as well. and one of the barmen is a big OMD fan. so hurrah.

it can get busy at lunchtime but they let you call ahead and reserve a table for lunch, even if it is of the liquid variety.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 24 December 2005 00:44 (twenty years ago)

Oh, OK, sounds good to me. I could be tempted into a bit of lunch, I suppose. I can be there from opening time until about 1.45.

I'm now going to bed, so organise away, and consider me counted in.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 24 December 2005 00:49 (twenty years ago)

fkn bastille; get a grip

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 24 December 2005 02:05 (twenty years ago)
