shuli's tan mom impression is good but it got on my nerves really quick. shuli bugs me

flappy bird, Thursday, 3 December 2015 17:47 (ten years ago)

getting nervous about no word re: future plans. five shows left... if he's leaving Sirius, he won't mention it at all for fear of being sued... i really hope he's not doing a TV show

flappy bird, Monday, 7 December 2015 19:17 (ten years ago)

no way he'll retire. he's been doing 'the show' in one form another since he was 8 years old.

calstars, Monday, 7 December 2015 20:32 (ten years ago)

even with a paycut, or if he has to go elsewhere...he'll still be around

calstars, Monday, 7 December 2015 20:32 (ten years ago)

I don't think he's going to retire, I'm nervous he'll leave Sirius, but even more nervous that he'll radically alter the structure/format/length of the show. An interviews only TV show would be such a bummer.

flappy bird, Monday, 7 December 2015 21:00 (ten years ago)

and oh my god, i love tan mom but listening to this fight today is fucking torture

flappy bird, Monday, 7 December 2015 21:35 (ten years ago)

the ben carson call from yesterday? was the first time i really heard howard doing that kind of letterman self-deprecating thing coming out of a bit, like, "another classic, robin ... you won't hear entertainment like that outside of jeff the drunk's show."

dylannn, Tuesday, 8 December 2015 03:21 (ten years ago)

i haven't listened in a long time, though.

dylannn, Tuesday, 8 December 2015 03:23 (ten years ago)

he's made lots of comments like that as long as I've been listening (~2011). For what it's worth, today's show went until noon.

flappy bird, Tuesday, 8 December 2015 21:56 (ten years ago)

lol @ H and Beth mispronouncing "Net a Porter" and no one on the whole show knowing

calstars, Wednesday, 9 December 2015 03:12 (ten years ago)

I guess none of Beth's friends know either, otherwise they would have told her...unless she never actually speaks to them

calstars, Wednesday, 9 December 2015 03:28 (ten years ago)

I've never gotten the impression that Stern is terribly bright (other than in a business sense)

MaresNest, Wednesday, 9 December 2015 09:40 (ten years ago)

still no announcement, teasing next week's christmas special with "ah yes Robin, just three shows left until we say goodbye to our audience forever and fade into the ether..." Robin: "We're going into ether?"

flappy bird, Wednesday, 9 December 2015 18:07 (ten years ago)

hahaha
I'm a couple days behind...looking forward to master cheese maker don Henley

calstars, Wednesday, 9 December 2015 22:36 (ten years ago)

The angry ex-fans, who hate-listen and catalogue Stern’s about-faces and political correctness, call the host “Hollywood Howard” and “Hamptons Howard” and (oof) “James Lipton with a radio mic.”

(please no long guns of any kind) (Eazy), Monday, 14 December 2015 18:31 (ten years ago)

Anyone that thinks the show has become politically correct is dumb as a wall. Richard pouring beer into his asshole, Tan Mom vs. a transgendered ex-cop, Caitlyn Jenner jokes, ISIS hotline, cancelling all visas... Artie's comments are spot on in that piece - it's a personal & artistic evolution. His Dylan comparison is apt.

i'm relistening to the entire 2008 year again. the thing i notice most when i listen to recent shows is, the room sounds smaller and quieter, usually. it's mostly stern's voice, bit of robin. the way the studio sounded through the 2000s, it's often people talking over each other, fred hitting drops over that.

i recently listened to the entire year of 1995 stern shows, too, when he was -- as the article mentions -- wishing aids on his enemies. there was a chicago station that was refusing to pay him, decided to take him to court, and he over and over again calls for the station manager to get aids and then cut himself shaving and bleed into his childrens cornflakes. as well, he was in the middle of his beef with mancow, and he would get into 20-40 minute raps about how he was going to exhume the recently deceased father of mancow and fist him. 1995 is also deep in the oj trial, so you also get lots of racist impressions of johnny cochrane in amos n andy voice + 40 minutes on a "weekend at oj's" bit. jackie is relatively quiet unless called upon, and you can forget billy west is even there. if you sit and listen to the full 1995 shows, it's a quieter studio than the sirius golden years, too. and howard is boring and self-centered and lame as he is 20 years later and you notice it more when the studio has fewer voices.

dylannn, Tuesday, 15 December 2015 07:33 (ten years ago)

i haven't listened enough recently, maybe.

dylannn, Tuesday, 15 December 2015 07:34 (ten years ago)

Five more years!

http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/news/howard-stern-extends-siriusxm-deal-plans-streaming-video-app-20151215

"As a broadcaster, it does not get better than working at SiriusXM and I'm truly excited for the future with this great company," Stern said in a statement. "I happen to think that its best days are ahead. So, if you are not listening to SiriusXM and The Howard Stern Show, then you are really more like a zombie, a rotting corpse monster, living half a life, deadened and blackened inside. It's as if you were still watching black and white television while shopping in actual stores on your way to the post office to fax a memo."

Stern was especially excited about the visual component of his new deal, which would result in a streaming video app that will feature both his daily Howard Stern Show as well as episodes and specials from the vaults.

flappy bird, Tuesday, 15 December 2015 16:42 (ten years ago)

xp I started listening right after the Artie era, and I can't stand how everyone is talking over each other on the older shows. I really like the relaxed pace of the show now. Howard has become a better broadcaster & interviewer since he's mellowed out, imo.

cumia is a dirtbag facing domestic abuse charges, which he jokes about during the show opening. levy, jackie, stuttering john and grillo are some of the unfunniest losers associated with the howard stern show. enjoy!

sample:

stuttering john: "you know what they say... go black... you know... go black never back."
cumia: "something like that."
stuttering john: "well, that's true 'cause i once banged a black chick and she never came back."
bob levy: "she already had your wallet, why would she?"

fantasizing about drone-launched hellfire missile through a skylight of cumia's long island mcmansion.

dylannn, Wednesday, 23 December 2015 07:32 (ten years ago)

jackie and levy look ancient

baffles me how these dudes make a living anymore

calstars, Wednesday, 23 December 2015 14:18 (ten years ago)

KC washed up on shore here too

calstars, Wednesday, 23 December 2015 15:51 (ten years ago)

yeah that video is so fucking grating. they deserve each other. except KC. i feel bad for him. sounds like he went through some pretty intense medical shit recently (aneurysm?? pancreatitis???). KC is the only one that isn't a total fucking scumbag.

*punches bag of cans*
