Maybe instead of performing threads as plays, we could film them as porn parodies. (Again, we'd hire outside talent for this).

was with you until that last post

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 1 December 2015 03:48 (ten years ago)

wtf is a porn parody

the grimes of claire boucher ('90s on) (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 1 December 2015 03:53 (ten years ago)

"Fishbowl" discussions. Some threads will have just 10 or so users posting, maybe people who know a lot about the given topic, but everyone can read the thread. Then there will be another thread where everyone else discusses the "main" thread, scrutinizing posters the way commentators do after a presidential debate.

better/worse yet, rig it so that (for instance) anyone who visits ilxor.com between 6:00 and 8:00 PM GMT on December 5 is automatically redirected to The Great ILX Gun Control Showdown, followed by a compulsory discussion thread between 8:00 and 9:00 PM. it's not like we have anything better to do with our time.

Some threads don't have ten posters on a good day.

the fiest p (onimo), Tuesday, 1 December 2015 12:30 (ten years ago)

These will be high interest threads though that only ten users will have access to. Think "panel discussion." The threads will be advertised on the new york city subway (log on at 10pm to watch the discussion in real time!)

Treeship, Tuesday, 1 December 2015 12:46 (ten years ago)

From Jan 1 to Jan 7, if you get more than 25 sbs, you are banned from the site for the rest of the year
think of it as our version of The Purge

Eugene Goostman (forksclovetofu), Friday, 4 December 2015 02:30 (ten years ago)

Condensing it all into one short window of opportunity would really give me something to shoot for.

pplains, Friday, 4 December 2015 02:37 (ten years ago)

Cash incentives for flag posts like you get a dollar if you flag a post. The people that are left after a month of this win something, like dinner with Ned Raggett or something.

Treeship, Friday, 4 December 2015 13:38 (ten years ago)

Cash incentives for not being part of the sensitivity crew >.<

you could just call it "Board for RIP Threads"

this belongs in :your terrible ideas:, really

Make ILX display only the first 100 posts following a bookmarked post

a rewind feature that allows you to play back old threads so that you can relive the tension and excitement of watching classic clusterfucks develop in real time. if you're so inclined, you can play back all of ilx from the beginning, and you can adjust the speed to 2x/4x/8x/16x/etc. to catch up on ilx history more quickly.

principal poster analysis

We quickly ate the feast as to leave ASAP (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 8 April 2016 22:20 (ten years ago)

better yet (xpost), newcomers will be required to play back the last 15 years of ilx at a maximum speed of 4x and get an 80% or higher on the forum history exam before they can begin posting. the rest of us will have our posting privileges suspended until we review the period of forum history preceding the date of our first posts.

solipsistic ilx: you think you're interacting with real posters, but they're actually just chatbots programmed to respond in the voices of real posters. there'll be a chatbot darraghmac and a chatbot morbius and a chatbot ned, and they'll all respond in character because they've been fed the complete posting histories of those individuals. this will be a tactful feature for banned/disliked posters: they can abuse the chatbots all they want without hurting anyone's irl feelings, and they won't have to face the indignity of knowing that they've been banned. over the years their ilx timelines will diverge from reality in very interesting ways.

Break break hes in the machine burn everything

never had it so ogod (darraghmac), Friday, 8 April 2016 22:52 (ten years ago)

Love the rewind idea tho, but not as much as I love the fact u xposted yourself with a "better yet"

never had it so ogod (darraghmac), Friday, 8 April 2016 22:53 (ten years ago)

I have def wondered if ILX is a collection of bots designed to make people purchase unreasonably priced NBA tickets

de l'asshole (flopson), Saturday, 9 April 2016 00:07 (ten years ago)

also it's been a couple years since we talked about it but time for avatars imo

de l'asshole (flopson), Saturday, 9 April 2016 00:08 (ten years ago)

I want to publish like three or four epic threads in book form. I've talked about this before.

Treeship, Saturday, 9 April 2016 00:45 (ten years ago)

It would be sort of like a novel: there are the conversation topics but the reaaaal story is what is going on between the posters.

Treeship, Saturday, 9 April 2016 00:46 (ten years ago)

get to print

portumnes (alomar lines), Saturday, 9 April 2016 03:52 (ten years ago)

i've also had the idea of writing a novel where the text was just fictional message board threads. it would be a lot easier to just copy ilx threads though

Treeship, Saturday, 9 April 2016 04:58 (ten years ago)

Just a bit of fun

* Bookmarks separated out by board?

never ending bath infusion (Doctor Casino), Thursday, 14 April 2016 00:23 (ten years ago)

That's potentially something greasemonkey could do give that the board id is in the url... Would need to lookup board name (or use a hard coded list)

koogs, Thursday, 14 April 2016 02:23 (ten years ago)

Mind, I dunno how useful anyone but me would find it - just sometimes I'm looking idly but nonspecifically for a familiar I Love Photography thread to peruse, say.

Silence, followed by unintelligible stammering. (Doctor Casino), Thursday, 25 August 2016 21:18 (nine years ago)

please stop referencing post times to the current time and instead reference them to midnight of the forthcoming christmas day

i agree with Casino, looks yuck now

flopson, Thursday, 25 August 2016 21:41 (nine years ago)

Absolute dates only.

Jeff, Thursday, 25 August 2016 21:50 (nine years ago)

Dates in kelvin

poor fiddy-less albion (darraghmac), Thursday, 25 August 2016 21:51 (nine years ago)

the time words force you to engage your slow thinking and ask yourself "will this zing be good if it is responding to a fifty-eight minutes old post?"

veggie sticks potato snacks (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 25 August 2016 21:52 (nine years ago)

I like the relative timing - I feel like it's been this way since I came back? Y'all whinin' 'bout 'nothin

El Tomboto, Friday, 26 August 2016 00:02 (nine years ago)

The relative time only bothers me on zing touch because you have to click on the individual post to see the date-time

Jeff, Friday, 26 August 2016 00:21 (nine years ago)

a bot that bumps a random thread every day (and temporarily pins it to the top of SNA) with the text "did we ever get this sorted?"

hippie lady from california who loves that god (unregistered), Tuesday, 30 August 2016 16:23 (nine years ago)

I like that one. Extra entertaining on days when it throws up an old clusterfuck.

aaaaaaaauuuuuuuuu (melting robot) (WilliamC), Tuesday, 30 August 2016 16:44 (nine years ago)

we've got one of these already surely?

Len Bincowank (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 30 August 2016 16:45 (nine years ago)

did we ever get this sorted?

ælərdaɪs (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 30 August 2016 16:46 (nine years ago)

ilx is aching for a "ask darraghmac: did we ever get this sorted?" thread

F♯ A♯ (∞), Tuesday, 30 August 2016 18:17 (nine years ago)

I just feel that yknow we have a perfectly good random thread function, are we using it enough kind of thing
