"Fishbowl" discussions. Some threads will have just 10 or so users posting, maybe people who know a lot about the given topic, but everyone can read the thread. Then there will be another thread where everyone else discusses the "main" thread, scrutinizing posters the way commentators do after a presidential debate.

better/worse yet, rig it so that (for instance) anyone who visits ilxor.com between 6:00 and 8:00 PM GMT on December 5 is automatically redirected to The Great ILX Gun Control Showdown, followed by a compulsory discussion thread between 8:00 and 9:00 PM. it's not like we have anything better to do with our time.

These will be high interest threads though that only ten users will have access to. Think "panel discussion." The threads will be advertised on the new york city subway (log on at 10pm to watch the discussion in real time!)

a rewind feature that allows you to play back old threads so that you can relive the tension and excitement of watching classic clusterfucks develop in real time. if you're so inclined, you can play back all of ilx from the beginning, and you can adjust the speed to 2x/4x/8x/16x/etc. to catch up on ilx history more quickly.

better yet (xpost), newcomers will be required to play back the last 15 years of ilx at a maximum speed of 4x and get an 80% or higher on the forum history exam before they can begin posting. the rest of us will have our posting privileges suspended until we review the period of forum history preceding the date of our first posts.

solipsistic ilx: you think you're interacting with real posters, but they're actually just chatbots programmed to respond in the voices of real posters. there'll be a chatbot darraghmac and a chatbot morbius and a chatbot ned, and they'll all respond in character because they've been fed the complete posting histories of those individuals. this will be a tactful feature for banned/disliked posters: they can abuse the chatbots all they want without hurting anyone's irl feelings, and they won't have to face the indignity of knowing that they've been banned. over the years their ilx timelines will diverge from reality in very interesting ways.

I want to publish like three or four epic threads in book form. I've talked about this before.

It would be sort of like a novel: there are the conversation topics but the reaaaal story is what is going on between the posters.

i've also had the idea of writing a novel where the text was just fictional message board threads. it would be a lot easier to just copy ilx threads though

The relative time only bothers me on zing touch because you have to click on the individual post to see the date-time

a bot that bumps a random thread every day (and temporarily pins it to the top of SNA) with the text "did we ever get this sorted?"
