it kinda bums me out when people use this thread for passive-aggressive posts obviously directed at another poster made at a time when they could actually engage in the primary discussion. Most of my posts here are generic/oblique, using this thread as a substitute "i don't know where to post this so I'm putting it here" posts, or total latepass responses to things from weeks/months/years ago that would be meaningless to post in the original thread because discussion has moved on.

On the other hand, it's noteworthy that we've been discussing sociocultural inequity when it comes to speech/communication/interactions, and at some points, it appears to me (at least) that this thread functions as a way to express things when one feels that inequity going on in a thread and being involved in it, is uncomfortable for some of the same reasons that "less privileged" feel uncomfortable in discussions with more privileged ppl.

nah, i heart this thread because it's a testament that sometimes people do think before they post. sometimes becoming more engaged is just not the right thing to do.

I think it's funny you bring up race when you've aligned yourself with ilx's most egregious exotifiers, as if you can't, for example, find a family resemblance among the "definitive goon cru anthems" and see why the thread is a gross (not to mention narcissistic) project. I don't know what you'd find attractive about White savior race hucksters like Weingarten and deej, the former who is still bitching about tokenism in year end polls as if he's some kind of hero to the oppressed and the latter who makes almost daily anecdotal assertions in his blundering quest to convey his knowingness about Black culture, except that you align with their racially manichean view of the world.

as for me being racist for sort of defending uber in one thread one time... sorry!

where i live most Uber drivers and cab drivers are POC, so that doesn't line up with my xp. but i'd be happy to talk and argue about it more

maybe it's not that you dislike the pass-agg dissent but rather you dislike not being given the opportunity to demonstrate your right-on political bonafides in the correct thread

don't want to spend my day defending deej & whiney but just out of curiosity: what's so bad about sometimes calling out what they perceive as racial bias in their field? and calling deej's writing a "blundering quest to convey his knowingness about Black culture" is pretty shitty. deej is a pretty great journalist of rap music. he (and whiney) do like, really great interviews and stuff. maybe read some stuff he writes professionally and you wouldn't have this impression of his work?
