yeah I saw an ad for it it was obnoxious. much as I love that Becky Ann Baker and Peter Scolari are gettin work I have really soured on this show after the last season.

i soured on it after season 1 but for some reason i can't explain i watched the rest of it.

it was bcz somewhere in yr heart you knew that Louise Lasser would be on.

the gaby Hoffman home birth s.4 ep was still incredible

thought there was a few really good episodes last season (the coming out episode especially), while the season considered as a whole was p terrible

the last episode seemed kinda like a series-ender with the leap forward and everything (which came off like a remarkably cheap narrative fix)

I did finally start S4. I found the writing workshop scenes false and hard to stomach, and there was something that really irritated me about the scene where *everyone unfairly criticizes Hannah* -- it seemed like narcissistic writing, on the part of Dunham, to me.

Like there's something about people who believe that the entire world gangs up on them for no reason -- usually (1) their perception is distorted and not everyone is really against them as much as they thing and (2) there is a reason

Elijah is consistently the funniest lately. but this show isn't particularly interested in comedy.

I like his character, he's very good at doing that thing where a person is obviously full of shit but kind of believes his own bullshit.

Just realized I was mixing up Elijah and Desi when I said this. Elijah is hilarious and knocks it out of the park consistently, and yeah pretty much is the only thing saving S4 for me so far.

I think they probably should be wrapping it up after this coming season if the last season was anything to go by.

Wonder if Kylo Ren's appearances will be curtailed considering his filming commitments to those Disney films + the fact that he broke up with Hannah. I hope not as he's my favourite thing about the show.

five seasons is almost always the correct number for any tv show, this has been proven time and time again.

Just watched "One Man's Trash" and it's as ambiguous and compelling as a good short story.

i'm with you there; i think it's the high water mark for the series.

Hey Beloved Pals,
I just wanted to let you know that, while I am so excited for Girls to return on Feb 21, I won't be out and about doing press for the new season. As many of you know I have endometriosis, a chronic condition that affects approximately 1 in 10 women's reproductive health. I am currently going through a rough patch with the illness and my body (along with my amazing doctors) let me know, in no uncertain terms, that it's time to rest. That's a hard thing to do, but I'm trying, because all I want is to make season 6 of Girls the best one yet. I'm lucky enough to have support and backup from Jenni, Judd and the whole Girls gang. So many women with this disease literally don't have the option of time off and I won't take it for granted.
Wishing you all health & happiness, in whatever form suits you.

That was a really good piece though - I was surprised at the reveal that the author is a mere 28. I was also sort of startled at the reminder that there is a generation of young urbanites who really deeply feel attached to and relate to this show.

Desi killing it in this episode.

yeah ep was better than I expected, p funny.

Marnie's "I'm a chill chick but please run every detail by me" schtick was pretty funny too.

Andrew Rannells' age is 37.

I dunno man, i was pleased to see Brigitte getting paid but otherwise this felt like self parody to me

i kind of enjoy watching everyone except LD and Ray.

its a lot more polished and sitcom than it used to be but it was p funny and i am fine with that. kind of wanted the ep to be longer though. think both it and togetherness could stand to be 40 minute shows or something.

The scene with Ray and Desi in the river was the most sitcomy this show has ever been. And it was proceeded by Hannah complaining about how sitcomy the girls were. Still, not a bad ep

this show feels so outdated and boring

yeah this show has completely run out of fresh and interesting ideas. I wonder how it's gonna hold up in 20 years?

I feel like it tries to find edginess and profundity and stuff in sources that have been completely tapped out

This season has been p reliably funny and watchable tbh - much like the last two seasons.

I liked this episode, definitely more than the last two. Not much happened but the arguments between the couples were, I dunno, more believable than usual? Mostly I liked that the girls were interacting with each other again, and not just doing their own thing

this show is not great, but the acting and writing for Marnie and Desi produces lots of laughs culminating in this season with Marnie's authentic pronunciation of Ecuador and Desi's fit of self loathing at not being able to take his tank top off.

i laughed at the tank top bit, but this show is more or less 100% bullshit, entirely bereft of ideas, and seemingly interested in easy target caricatures while also somehow infused with a ton of self-congratulatory liberal reflexiveness. i predicted that the end of the first season portended bad things and i think i was right.

it's mired in the dumbest cliches at this point

it's turned into a mediocre sitcom and hannah's awful teaching career just makes me feel anxious and desi seems to be a different character every episode but yes marnie is reliably awful every week (and very entertaining at that) and the jessa and adam subplot is surprisingly watchable, though i have this weird feeling they're actually going to kill adam off.
