My girlfriend asked me to rate her on a scale of 1 - 10 with 10 being movie star looks and 1 being a Lovecraftian horror. Naturally, I am a moron because I was like okay I'll rate you. She then says, whatever you rate me, don't worry, I won't get mad and it won't matter.
So I rate her a 6.5 out of 10. She had this really expectant look on her face that just vanished into a really disappointing look. It was like expecting a ps4 at christmas and being given a book on Mathematics. I immediately felt like a fucking dick and she was just like it's okay, I know I'm not that attractive, it's fine.
This was 2 days ago and she's been kind of sad and distant and I tried talking to her about it but she was just like I said it wouldn't bother me, don't worry. I tried kissing her cheek this morning after class and she just kind of turned away.
Fuck, yes, I know, I fucked up. I could use some advice????

My answer to questions like this is: "Don't ask questions you don't want the honest answer to." it usually gets them to pause and think about the possible outcomes and their possible feelings depending.

I thought this revive would be more entertaining. I'll admit I'm a regular lurker on reddit, I've been using for about 7 years off and on and all I can say in its defense is that it's gotten much worse in recent years. Especially this summer the migrant crises etc seems to have really riled up the creepy liberal types. I recently met one of these guys and damn it was yucky, like the TV show V. Went straight from "I'm an atheist vegetarian" to "Maybe Hitler was right about multiculturalism" and discussions of how soon it will be ok to nuke all Muslims.

i think the problem's just scale. you have a community with more than a couple hundred regular posters and the whole thing devolves into an shitshow unless you start heavy-handed moderation tactics, and even those will only work up to a certain point. the saddest community on reddit for me is AskHistorians, which is a giant ultra-moderated community of genuine professionals that puts the hammer down fast and hard on unsourced statements. a couple years ago it was totally fascinating, but now it's just a graveyard of people asking the same fucking questions about hitler over and over again. the flaired people are giving out really good responses, but since the hitler questions keep getting upvoted to the moon the sub is unreadable through the standard reddit ui- you have to jump in the back end and browse through the archives of the pinned topics, which by their nature never get upvoted despite containing all the good stuff.
