"Glip Glop?” You're lucky a Traflorkian doesn't hear you say that."

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Thursday, 24 September 2015 00:20 (ten years ago)

I thought both TV eps were kind of weak but I did appreciate the alien How It's Made. nailed the voiceover style and the background music so perfectly

(in the 1st one I liked the extended fake doors ad, and the ~emotional twist~ was strangely affecting the first time, but it didn't stand up to a 2nd viewing. also I always appreciate a moment of Belly nostalgia obv)

a passing spacecadet, Thursday, 24 September 2015 11:03 (ten years ago)

I love the alien names in this show. Shrimpy Pibbles, St. Gloopy Noops hospital, Andy Daly's character a while back being called Krombopulos Michael...just all of it.

wonderful season straight through and brilliant finale. can't wait for season 3.

i love how the cob planet was intolerable.

Rick's speech note -- "(trail off) (crumple up note) (ad-lib)" -- killed me.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 7 October 2015 18:35 (ten years ago)

a few clunkers (please no more non sequitur alien tv episodes) but otherwise, really a solid season.

fwiw i thought the second infinite tv episode was much funnier the second time i saw it. i guess i just rlly like throwaway jokes. anyway is season 3 really a year and a half away like they said at the end of the show?

davey, Thursday, 8 October 2015 01:57 (ten years ago)

for those of you going through withdrawal, i'm here to say that the Rick and Morty comic is aces and worth trying.

rick and morty is funny but all those baby words they use for everything are not funny

"You can't smile in court, that's a violation" gets me every time for some reason. more than the cock references.

season 2 blu-ray is completely worth it for the plumbus instruction manual alone

the portentous pepper (govern yourself accordingly), Wednesday, 3 August 2016 17:29 (nine years ago)

I got about 2 minutes into that video before I realized what they were doing. That's awesome.

I binge watched season 2 a couple of weeks ago on Hulu and it was absolutely amazing. I keep telling my wife about it even though she very clearly does not GAF. "Total Rickall" and the Tiny Rick episode were better than pretty much anything else on television.

The writing on Season 2 is so, so good.

International House of Hot Takes (kingfish), Sunday, 2 April 2017 17:37 (nine years ago)

Had to look up the nearly inaudible thing Rick said while watching 9/11: "They're gonna use this as an excuse to take away our freedom!"

Not the funniest episode, but probably the craziest one they've done

the comments are worth reading

i also had no idea 1) this was a thing, 2) the whole show was created as a sophomoric mike and ike style back to the future satire, 3) so much teabagging

Excellent episode.

Trying to watch this from the very start but the pilot is such utter horseshit that I'm very tempted to not continue. Is there a DRASTIC improvement?

Yes. Drastic.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 10 April 2017 23:13 (nine years ago)

so much teabagging

it is almost as if they thought that the very idea of teabagging was hilarious in itself and its hilarity was inexhaustible, like some frigging eternal flame. they were wrong.

a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Monday, 10 April 2017 23:19 (nine years ago)

it gets better but i think a lot of charm was there from the beginning. (and it's actually the kind of thing i'd be surprised if imago liked it)

Mordy, Monday, 10 April 2017 23:21 (nine years ago)

context: i think bojack horseman is fucking brilliant, i like some adult swim and uh idk i can't watch family guy, which this resembles (observation courtesy tt)

tried 3 eps (including Meeseeks) and yeah this isn't for me (tho nor is Bojack)

Mordy, Monday, 10 April 2017 23:32 (nine years ago)

You gotta get to at least the simulation episode.

Lauren Schumer Donor (Phil D.), Tuesday, 11 April 2017 01:29 (nine years ago)

it's so prog, though. also i seem to recall it starting out way more douchey in a Family Guy way, which it totally shakes off

flopson, Tuesday, 11 April 2017 01:36 (nine years ago)

Trying to watch this from the very start but the pilot is such utter horseshit that I'm very tempted to not continue.

Later episodes help establish their universe a lot better. Once I understood it, the pilot and every other episode became a lot more engaging.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 11 April 2017 02:45 (nine years ago)

Family Guy is unwatchable.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 11 April 2017 02:49 (nine years ago)

bojack is far more grounded and kind-hearted than rick and morty, tho rick and morty is more laugh out loud funny. Besides being two excellent animated shows, I don't really see many similarities between the two.

neva missa lost, wednesday nights on abc (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 11 April 2017 03:33 (nine years ago)

Bojack is devastating. imo R&M is slightly lighter subject matter.

Any similarities were mentioned here: http://www.avclub.com/article/bojack-horseman-rick-and-morty-and-art-cynical-sin-223245

billstevejim, Tuesday, 11 April 2017 05:03 (nine years ago)

I sort of think if you don't dig the pilot at least a bit you won't dig the rest of it. I thought the pilot was great.

chap, Tuesday, 11 April 2017 08:58 (nine years ago)

the second episode had Scary Terry and robot dogs ("Where are my testicles, Summer?") so if you don't get on board there I don't know what to tell you.

evol j, Tuesday, 11 April 2017 13:11 (nine years ago)

I sort of think if you don't dig the pilot at least a bit you won't dig the rest of it. I thought the pilot was great.

I loathed the pilot. Couldn't get on board with the show until Mr Meeseeks.

Rachel Luther Queen (DJP), Tuesday, 11 April 2017 13:27 (nine years ago)

I agree that meeseeks is where it takes off. the vocal tics take a lot of getting used to.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Tuesday, 11 April 2017 13:31 (nine years ago)

The pilot was a little rough, but Scary Terry got me hooked. "Awwwww, bitch!" was a turning point.

Lauren Schumer Donor (Phil D.), Tuesday, 11 April 2017 13:33 (nine years ago)

pilot's fine, but it's difficult to get a solid read on the show from one episode. i mean, you shouldn't be getting "family guy" out of it...
