we totally did this one before and it totally turned into everyone's recounting of how many channels they had when they were a kid

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Monday, 21 September 2015 15:03 (ten years ago)

OK, let's discuss being brought up by heehaw.

Mark G, Monday, 21 September 2015 15:12 (ten years ago)

btw, if we didn't turn out OK, or we died after falling off our bike and getting hit by a belt inthe ditch, are we supposed to "like" it?

Mark G, Monday, 21 September 2015 15:13 (ten years ago)

the "pledge"

welltris (crüt), Monday, 21 September 2015 15:15 (ten years ago)

shane mcanally and brandy clark are making a hee haw musical, if anyone cares

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Monday, 21 September 2015 15:17 (ten years ago)

anyways, there's this one dude who i don't know but somehow is a facebook friend and i never got around to unfriending and i check the site fairly rarely so it's not a big deal one way or another but the only thing i have ever seen him post (and he apparently posts it daily) is an 8am message that reads "good morning, coffee is done!"

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Monday, 21 September 2015 15:22 (ten years ago)

Cartoons were on 5 channel TV weekday afternoons, better ones usually than the Hanna-Barbaric; nobody called phones "rotary" phones; and only lame kids said the Pledge reverently without ever changing the words (United Snakes of a Merry Cow). Oh, and should have included: "finding old Playboys" "jokes about Nixon" and "fearing serial killers." Repost if you remember anything.

called a 'Star' by the Compliance Unit (Bananaman Begins), Monday, 21 September 2015 17:23 (ten years ago)

Kinda disturbing how many of these "back in MY day" posts refer to parents beating their kids as "the good old days."

billstevejim, Monday, 21 September 2015 17:56 (ten years ago)

IMO that's actually the main thing that motivates writing one of these up, their real enemy is today's whiny bleeding-heart parental advice and so on. all the rest is added just to camouflage that bit, or try to make it feel like a normal healthy patchwork of childhood 'experiences' that never did anybody any harm.

Gorefest Frump (Doctor Casino), Monday, 21 September 2015 18:04 (ten years ago)

I had a bedtime but I turned out ok

syphilis sive morbus cameronus (wins), Monday, 21 September 2015 18:24 (ten years ago)

the thing about this is the it was posted by someone I went to HS with who I'm pretty sure had virtually none of those experiences except for like "watched cartoons" and "played in the dirt" which is all children ever?

I can't believe that one doesn't mention church.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Monday, 21 September 2015 22:23 (ten years ago)

man these parents had it all wrong. you want to turn your kid into a subservient doormat, just intimidate your kid by blowing your stack in situations that don't call for it and emotionally manipulate him. (my dad will serve as a reference if needed)

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Monday, 21 September 2015 22:41 (ten years ago)

I'm amazed that the word "pussified" didn't appear.

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Monday, 21 September 2015 22:45 (ten years ago)

Whipping children is the author's religion.

Someone asked a question
Why it is we sing
We sing cos if we don't
then daddy hits us with his ring

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Monday, 21 September 2015 22:58 (ten years ago)

Just had this shared onto my timeline. Even Angelina Jolie (uh-huh, I'm sure it's her) is all about the terrible fake moralising stories.

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Tuesday, 22 September 2015 00:30 (ten years ago)

I was in favor of bedtime, always gave me more time to listen to the radio on headphones. Oh, and to masturbate. Lots of extra time for that.

Vic Perry, Tuesday, 22 September 2015 00:59 (ten years ago)

nobody ever borrow a pair of headphones from Vic

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Tuesday, 22 September 2015 01:26 (ten years ago)

That's not screenshotted from my phone, that photo of a screenshot was posted like that to my timeline. Perhaps Angelina's disabled sharing on her "please share" message of hope and humanity.
