I don't want all that shit baked into my tv! I think it might be a mindset thing, but few people do, since televisions work well as a dumb screen and no one wants to replace the whole tv when you can upgrade a little box instead

apple sure doesn't want to sell a full tv, still

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:06 (ten years ago)

I mean, arguably they do sell televisions since most kids (and some adults I know) don't use an actual television and just have an iMac or tablet or w/e

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:07 (ten years ago)

as an owner of a top of the line tivo, all this universal search / predictive content / apps / content not network focus stuff is what I've been doing for the past two years
i recommend it highly

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:07 (ten years ago)

but i don't need ANOTHER set top box doing the same thing

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:08 (ten years ago)

even the cheap TV i have gets apps and what do those apps do other then take you to content that you then just watch anyways like a normal TV xxp

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:13 (ten years ago)

the UI is maybe not the best but i'm not watching that

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:14 (ten years ago)

I was using a Roku til it crapped out, then a Fire TV and now an XBox One. I do miss iTunes access and if I were an iTunes Music subscriber I'd definitely add one of these, but I don't know that "rent movies on iTunes instead of Amazon" is a $100 selling point.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:14 (ten years ago)

wait, multiplayer crossy road eh? okay, i'll give you 250 dollars then

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:14 (ten years ago)

lol games yo

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:15 (ten years ago)

still genuinely surprised when i read or hear people say "rent movies"

F♯ A♯ (∞), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:16 (ten years ago)

I got a new TV in June and the remote has big buttons at the top for Netlix, Amazon, and Hulu and I can't think of any reason to want anything else. I just ran a cable to this room last weekend but only because football season is starting.

joygoat, Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:18 (ten years ago)

These presenters are so awkward!

Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:18 (ten years ago)

fuck this qvc / gilt (seriously, gilt?) shit tho

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:19 (ten years ago)

baseball shit is pretty cool looking

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:20 (ten years ago)

interesting that they don't have that with NBA/NFL tho as that would moreso be a system seller

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:21 (ten years ago)

xxxp

pretty much.

except now i just download or popcorn time it

i pay $45 for 18 kbps internet (which actually goes up to 22 a lot), including 100 garbage channels, hbo and an amazon prime membership

this deal ends this year and if i can't get a comparable deal (which is likely) i'll be cancelling my subscription

F♯ A♯ (∞), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:22 (ten years ago)

to joygoat

F♯ A♯ (∞), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:23 (ten years ago)

haha my reply was to joygoat

F♯ A♯ (∞), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:24 (ten years ago)

the separate environment tvOS is really counterintuitive to me, can anyone suggest why they're doing that

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:27 (ten years ago)

the only thing that's changed is everything
now YOU are the phone

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:28 (ten years ago)

The only major problem I have with my Roku is the lack of HBO Now, which, as it turns out, does not work properly on my windows laptop (I have exhausted all of the tech support options through both internet and HBO, nothing helps). Otherwise it's fine, although it's a little clunky to search for stuff in some programs like youtube.

I wonder if the Apple TV storage level will be important when Apple's TV service comes along

Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:39 (ten years ago)

I currently have two smart TVs in my house, a PS3 and a PS4. The TVs can natively play Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Go and Spotify, or I can stream them through the PS3/PS4. 3/4 devices can also stream my iTunes library (allegedly the PS4 can do it now as well but I haven't set it up yet).

Apple TV is 100% useless to me.

I Am Curious (Dolezal) (DJP), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:42 (ten years ago)

this kid playing Warhammer on the iPhone is hilarious

Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:44 (ten years ago)

xxp

it's a streaming service, so i would think not

F♯ A♯ (∞), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:45 (ten years ago)

does anyone live somewhere that has Sony's TV streaming service? curious how well it works, sounds pretty cool

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:47 (ten years ago)

DJP, obviously you need an Apple TV so you can play your iOS version of Marvel Puzzle Quest on a big screen

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:49 (ten years ago)

kind of blows my mind that in my lifetime we've gone from photography requiring a fair amount of knowledge and gear to get a good picture to everyone having a high resolution digital camera on them all the time that has all kinds of image analysis built in

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:53 (ten years ago)

huh, apple trying to remake gifs

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:54 (ten years ago)

I would like to think that if my grandmother was still alive she'd still figure out how to get her finger over part of the lens in 3/4 of pictures

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:54 (ten years ago)

good filter name. the grandma filter for the nostalgic

F♯ A♯ (∞), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:58 (ten years ago)

"the only thing that's changed is that you can press harder and it does something different" didn't have the right ring apparently

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 19:00 (ten years ago)

tbh that feature works really well on my newer laptop, it's just that the OS does very little with it

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 19:02 (ten years ago)

it's basically force touch, the same crap the macbook pro has. i disabled it

xp

F♯ A♯ (∞), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 19:04 (ten years ago)

lol how do you know the diff between it being enabled and disabled? I don't think you can completely disable it, as the trackpad does not at all click now. so if you click at all, you're using force touch

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 19:05 (ten years ago)

mh oh you most certainly can. i actually really hate that feature

it's all in your trackpad settings i believe.

trust me. it's off!

F♯ A♯ (∞), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 19:07 (ten years ago)

turn off the laptop completely, then push on the trackpad
then turn it on, and click as normal

you will realize... you have been using force touch

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 19:08 (ten years ago)

sorry man they made it so you can't not

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 19:08 (ten years ago)

no, force touch meaning the more dynamic use. not the regular features that mimic a mouse with a left and right button

F♯ A♯ (∞), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 19:08 (ten years ago)

lol, one republic
this is what happens when you burn out U2

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 19:08 (ten years ago)

sorry bro

http://cupertinotimes.com/disable-force-touch-trackpad-on-macbook-pro/

F♯ A♯ (∞), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 19:09 (ten years ago)

xp

F♯ A♯ (∞), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 19:09 (ten years ago)

oh, so you disabled the deep click part

it's still using the exact same vibration part, just on weaker mode

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 19:11 (ten years ago)

you just angrily ripped the third button off your mouse

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 19:11 (ten years ago)

Who the fuck is one republic

calstars, Wednesday, 9 September 2015 19:11 (ten years ago)

the most middlebrow act they could find

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 19:12 (ten years ago)

maybe imagine dragons were booked

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 19:12 (ten years ago)

iPhone upgrade program sounds promising?
