FUUUUCK I went to TJs yesterday and forgot to buy the Milano cookies noooooooooooooo

Y Kant Max Read (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 5 September 2015 14:29 (ten years ago)

Where IS that Green Dragon sauce? I couldn't find it yesterday and they were busy, didn't want to bother an employee.

We Boo... The Cross (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Saturday, 5 September 2015 18:17 (ten years ago)

Is it refrigerated, I mean, because I didn't see it in the hot sauce section.

We Boo... The Cross (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Saturday, 5 September 2015 18:17 (ten years ago)

it was on an aisle end cap when I was there, as a new product

μpright mammal (mh), Saturday, 5 September 2015 20:14 (ten years ago)

wasn't refrigerated here, just in w/ other assorted hot sauces in addition to end cap

Hadrian VIII, Sunday, 6 September 2015 13:14 (ten years ago)

two weeks pass...

give a big miss to their "mango ginger chutney," putting that in quotation marks because it tastes EXACTLY like sweet chili sauce, don't let the orange color fool you. which is fine, i like sweet chili sauce, but they are definitely not interchangable.

i sampled the sriracha ranch dressing recently, it's wayy too spicy to use as a dressing imo unless you are a spicy field but it would probably make a good dip.

musically, Monday, 21 September 2015 16:36 (ten years ago)

Intriguing. I already mix sriracha and ranch dressing together to dip tater tots into (I AM A DISGUSTING SAVAGE AMA). This could save me minutes per year of mixing things!

i've also been on a trader joe's salad kick so i can heartily recommend the arugula chicken salad, the mexicali salad, the chicken and roasted beets salad and the butternut squash/quinoa/wheatberry salad. all really tasty.

right now i'm eating the kale and cauliflower curry salad...it's weird. the kale in it wasn't cut from the stems (and these are thick stems, about 1cm in diameter) which i thought was a universal requirement for pre-made kale salads?

musically, Monday, 21 September 2015 21:53 (ten years ago)

I had an interview at Trader Joe's world HQ two weeks ago and it was kinda nuts. Every single person in that office aside from the CEO has a cubicle.. And yes, they wear hawaiian shirts.

panettone for the painfully alone (mayor jingleberries), Monday, 21 September 2015 21:57 (ten years ago)

would it kill them to make more prepared dishes with fake meat in them? Every goddamn thing is chicken chicken chicken.

a silly gif of awkward larping (Sparkle Motion), Monday, 21 September 2015 22:22 (ten years ago)

and not good chicken, either, always tastes kind of gross. I just pick it out. Sorry, chickens.

Also yeah the kale and cauliflower salad is like eating a chopped up umbrella with some cauliflower and sultanas.

jimmy falloff (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Tuesday, 22 September 2015 00:34 (ten years ago)

lol @ chopped up umbrella

"I had an interview at Trader Joe's world HQ two weeks ago..."

Is this still in So Cal? (Monrovia?)

nickn, Tuesday, 22 September 2015 04:18 (ten years ago)

btw I'm completely reversing my recommendation of the mexicali salad...I just bought one and it's definitely changed since I last had one a year or so ago, yuck.

musically, Saturday, 26 September 2015 00:52 (ten years ago)

Finally found the Green Dragon sauce to be told that they're going to stop having it. So I hope I like it. But not too much.

Ina-Garten-Da-Vida (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 12 October 2015 19:46 (ten years ago)

Did they get rid of the vegetarian chili? Motherfuckers.

yes that is a baffling move

Hadrian VIII, Tuesday, 13 October 2015 17:12 (ten years ago)

one month passes...

I tried the gingerbread latte instant mix and give it two thumbs down. Very odd tasting.

I really want to find an instant latte mix without trans fats that's tasty, this isn't it unfortunately.

musically, Monday, 16 November 2015 20:38 (ten years ago)

dinner last night, all quite good:

steamed chicken soup DUMPLINGS!
Korean-inspired pork shoulder
Asian vegetables with Beijing style soy sauce
Organic jasmine rice

The 2015 Vintage beer from Unibroue has arrived and it's excellent as usual - the biggest bargain in beer.

Spencer Chow, Monday, 16 November 2015 21:33 (ten years ago)

Unibrow? is that beer that makes you look like John Stamos?

skateboards are the new combover (Dr Morbius), Monday, 16 November 2015 21:35 (ten years ago)

ooh time to buy the beers

μpright mammal (mh), Monday, 16 November 2015 22:13 (ten years ago)

it actually turns you into a Québécois person

μpright mammal (mh), Monday, 16 November 2015 22:13 (ten years ago)

Last year (I think) the price jumped a dollar, but still a great deal.

nickn, Monday, 16 November 2015 22:58 (ten years ago)

Lemur tea is back.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 17 November 2015 12:53 (ten years ago)

I'd never had a good frozen mac & cheese so I never tried TJs until I was hungover and shopping for dinner today. Holy shit.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 18 November 2015 02:33 (ten years ago)

you don't like stouffer's? but yeah agreed that tj's mac n cheese is pretty great

balls, Wednesday, 18 November 2015 02:36 (ten years ago)

i just ate it for lunch last week, still amazing

Ina-Garten-Da-Vida (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 18 November 2015 03:41 (ten years ago)

sooo good

also shoutout to those little pb&j chocolate bars

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 18 November 2015 03:44 (ten years ago)

I think it was only $2.99? When you factor in milk and butter and time, I think that's even cheaper than Kraft M&C.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 18 November 2015 03:47 (ten years ago)

any time i hit up tj's (which isn't super often cuz it's not that near by) i end up buying some of that mac n cheese and some of that $3 chicken fried rice, in theory just to have on hand in the freezer when i don't feel like taking the time to cook but that mac n cheese is always gone in like 48 hours

balls, Wednesday, 18 November 2015 03:57 (ten years ago)

I didn't dig the chicken fried rice the one time I bought it, but a friend suggested replacing their "1 tbsp of oil" with way more ghee or something.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 18 November 2015 03:58 (ten years ago)

it helps that the chinese food options in this town are fucking pitiful and overpriced

just sayin, Wednesday, 18 November 2015 05:34 (ten years ago)

"One minor problem: the slick, oily residue on the outside of these things. It’s meant to resemble butter coating, but it doesn’t, and it’s not really necessary. It makes the snack a little lardaceous and overwhelming after a while."

And then he ranks it number 1.

Hadrian VIII, Wednesday, 18 November 2015 14:47 (ten years ago)

Anyway the blister peanuts clobber all these snacks

Hadrian VIII, Wednesday, 18 November 2015 14:49 (ten years ago)

wtf, the everything crackers and the mini cheese sandwiches are AWESOME!!!

Ina-Garten-Da-Vida (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 18 November 2015 15:42 (ten years ago)

Love those little cheese sandwich crackers. We get them ostensibly for Ivy and I end up eating more of them than she does.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 18 November 2015 17:15 (ten years ago)

and they're organic, that means healthy

Ina-Garten-Da-Vida (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 18 November 2015 17:28 (ten years ago)

those south african chips are not very good. the ghost pepper ones are fine.

sarahell, Wednesday, 18 November 2015 21:56 (ten years ago)

the south african chips seem good at first but the appeal wears thin v quickly

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 18 November 2015 23:35 (ten years ago)

Yeah, like a quarter of the way through the bag. They have a kind of odd texture, too, a little liked baked Lay's or something.

thumbs up!

polyphonic, Thursday, 19 November 2015 00:43 (ten years ago)

I'm interested. What percentage of the filling is kale? Is it frozen?

Capitalism Is A Death Cult And Science Is A Whore (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Thursday, 19 November 2015 05:29 (ten years ago)

I got it from the refrigerated section. It's like 50/50 quinoa and kale, with chunks of sweet potato. Good flavor. The tortilla is spicy.

polyphonic, Thursday, 19 November 2015 05:53 (ten years ago)

pour one out for the now-discontinued biltong jerky, damn i loved that
