sad. i saw him play with jerry's arkestra last summer at the barbican, one of the greatest shows I've ever seen.

fund metal health (stevie), Friday, 4 September 2015 20:08 (ten years ago)

I saw him at the Glasgow Jazz Festival in 2007 as part of the Legends of Jazz with Coleridge Goode, Russ Henderson, Will Gaines, Andy Hamilton, Harry Beckett, Tan Tan Thornton and Kenrick Rowe. Some line-up, that.

Madchen, Friday, 4 September 2015 20:22 (ten years ago)

He'd always be on the annual NYE Hootenanny (BBC, Jools Holland), I think he missed the last one and I did fear he was unwell.

Mark G, Friday, 4 September 2015 22:16 (ten years ago)

this one is so sad. He really was a great player.

Big RIP from me. Soul Town was far superior to Soul Street which replaced it after the merger, so many beautiful deep cuts were played that then went missing. I even emailed Bobby after he disappeared from the show to see what had gone down and what he was up to next.

Houston Astros Announcer Milo Hamilton

Love, Wilco (C. Grisso/McCain), Thursday, 17 September 2015 20:14 (ten years ago)

Globally, Hamilton is widely-known for his radio call of Hank Aaron's historic 715th home run on April 8, 1974, while serving as the Braves play-by-play announcer. Hamilton and Aaron had a special bond that remained intact long after he left the Braves organization. When the Astros honored Hamilton's career with a special night in 2012, Aaron made the trip to Houston to speak at the event.

RIP Sewell. I used to work near him at the Standard, and he was a hilarious, splenetic presence. And when our section was closed down and my section head made redundant having just bought a house and with a baby on the way, Sewell wrote him a reference and offered to pay his mortgage till he found a new job.

That's really nice. I guess that's the kinder side the obituary was insisting on.
