mcdonalds has DECLINED THE OLIVE BRANCH

"We love the intention but think our two brands could do something bigger to make a difference," he said. "We commit to raise awareness worldwide, perhaps you'll join us in a meaningful global effort?"

"Lol, fuckoutta here with that weaksauce call me when you wanna upend capitalism"

what a horrible ad - i hope everyone involved feels bad about themselves in a serious way

doing my Objectives, handling some intense stuff (LocalGarda), Sunday, 30 August 2015 12:15 (ten years ago)

you're probably don't get too much exposure to Lovin Dublin and Niall Harbison's antics but yeah, they're basically pure evil

Number None, Sunday, 30 August 2015 12:18 (ten years ago)

ah i do actually, he is a figure of hatred among some friends in a whatsapp group i'm in. is this connected to that?

doing my Objectives, handling some intense stuff (LocalGarda), Sunday, 30 August 2015 12:24 (ten years ago)

Lovein Dublin organized the event depicted in the ad, only to blow their acolytes minds with the revelation that the gourment burgers they've been slavering over are from McDonald's

Number None, Sunday, 30 August 2015 12:28 (ten years ago)

oh god. i like their "top 10 places to eat chicken wings in dublin" and it's like "the 10 places that sell chicken wings in dublin" like "oh thanks for telling me about elephant and castle"

is dublin really big enough to need an irritating "in the know" foodie website?

doing my Objectives, handling some intense stuff (LocalGarda), Sunday, 30 August 2015 12:36 (ten years ago)

well they certainly work very hard to maintain that illusion

Here at Lovin Dublin we love good food. We also love Dublin. Although a lofty one, our mission is to make Dublin a better city and help Dubliners find the really good stuff that surrounds them on a daily basis.

The team here believes that Dublin is up there with Berlin, Melbourne and New York as one of the greatest cities in the world.

there's a real snake eating its tail vibe to the whole thing, in that they have to continually hype the idea of Dublin being this cutting edge metropolis in order to justify their own existence. I can't imagine there's a massive audience for the articles they shit out every day but I think the "brand synergy" shit like the McD's ad is how they keep the money coming in. I genuinely don't know anyone who doesn't think they're a joke but I suppose I'm fairly far from the intended audience

is there corn...in the burger? That's unfortunate

Number None, Sunday, 30 August 2015 12:58 (ten years ago)

Putting corn in the burger makes it chili for most native German speakers. I'm just reporting.

The whole "you'd never believe it's McDonald's!" approach (also seen in a chicken sandwich ad recently with gourmet food trucks blowing people's minds: you've been eating McDonald's!) seems ill thought out; in the end, what you remember is that people in the ads are unable to believe that McDonald's served good food. I imagine them cutting away right before the person spits out a half-chewed mouthful of what they just realized is fried pink slime chickenstuff and not the simple free-range delicacy they had been led to expect.

Gorefest Frump (Doctor Casino), Sunday, 30 August 2015 16:30 (ten years ago)

Yeah, people can't believe good food is from McDonalds, but they have no problem believing that McDonalds would lie and deceive them with the contents of their burger...

this is a very good insight. It's sort of the "UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT" of ad campaigns.

this kind of thing is everywhere now though, it's weird. i have the same reaction, the "you can't believe it's Taco Bell/Dominos/Chevy/etc" just reminds you why they have a bad brand in the first place

Nhex, Thursday, 3 September 2015 02:47 (ten years ago)

I felt the same way during that Domino's campaign about how they were improving, it just reminded me how much I dislike Domino's. Of course, I already didn't eat Domino's ever so I guess they didn't lose me as a customer.

When I worked at Domino's, my manager world always get pissed off at the new hires who would answer the phone "thank you for calling Domino Pizza..." "DOMINO IS A SUGAR COMPANY!"

three weeks pass...

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Sept. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Johnny Rockets restaurant chain announces the grand opening of its first-ever fast casual concept called Johnny's Burger Factory. The new concept was created, in part, to appeal to a new generation of customers – millennials – who are time-starved and demand faster service without sacrificing high quality, great tasting food. Johnny's Burger Factory at Walden Galleria will open on Saturday, September 26 at 10 a.m. for its official grand opening. The new restaurant will donate 20% of the proceeds generated from sales of its grand opening day to benefit The Salvation Army of Greater Buffalo and its programs dedicated to feeding hungry families throughout Western New York.

Charles Bruce, President and Chief Executive Officer for Johnny Rockets said, "Every detail about the development of Johnny's Burger Factory, from the first design to construction, product development and marketing had a new kind of consumer in mind. It's not possible to ignore millennials and still be competitive in the better burger category."

kind of a smart move. kind of lol in that their concept in the first place was to emulate the retro feel of short-order diners and fast-food drive-thrus.

btw we're getting Burger King's creepy Japanese black bun burger! now rebranded as "A1 steak sauce flavor-infused" Halloween Whopper.

Technically a chain restaurant

http://www.grubstreet.com/2015/09/danny-bowien-mission-cantina-burrito-business.html

Bowien has decided, after a great deal of thought, to transform Mission Cantina into a burrito-only restaurant. And, to commemorate the shift, he's unleashing a new Mission Chinese Food burrito that includes mapo tofu, salt-cod fried rice with Chinese sausage, and chili vinegar, rolled up in a griddled flour tortilla, for $14.
