why do i hate that artist thing that people keep posting on my facebook so much? why am i such a jerk?

this isn't a meme but I FUCKING HATE HATE HATE when people make up their own "hashtags" as if their lives are fucking "trending" like their fucking vacation or any stupid routine taking their kid to the park on a saturday

THere were some VERY funny jokes about this on the first episode of season 2 of "Bojack Horseman."

I have friends with children around 4-5 years old who will tag any social media pic of their child like #kidpocalypse or something and i just can't even. Also the people who do this with their dogs.

i have a friend who does "me & my girl" hastags with his wife and does image macros using the same thing and 9000000 other hashtags and he is the worst of all humans

a cowoker has a hashtag "like (nickname) eats" for the bajillion food pics he posts
also the worst

When people do this for weddings, gaaahhhhhhhhhhh!

I have a friend who, every time she posts a picture of her daughter, the hashtag is "#loveher." Her son's hashtags are "#babylove" or "#babycrush" and I just wanna vomit and die.

i know some ppl who end every endless string of hash tags with #hashtagsarestupid

one of my husband's relatives friended me on facebook after our wedding and everything she posts is illegible to me because of the hashtags. that are sometimes randomly in all caps. she is also very conventionally beautiful and a burgeoning media personality, i believe, so maybe these are legit hashtags? like she's just speaking the language of fame? i would never hide her posts; they are mesmerizing and incomprehensible.

I have a running series of facebook posts that are kind of more like tweets that I tag with #totaldadmoment, and they are definitely supposed to be all about ironic dadness, but I do sometimes wonder if I'm too close to the thing I'm ironizing.

not that i would do it but i could kinda understand a hashtag for a wedding in that it would give you an easy way to find pics and posts about a wedding maybe? on twitter at least, i don't think hashtags actually do anything on facebook.

They work on FB. I could also see useful for a wedding if you have many people talking photos, easy for them to be compiled if hashbrowned properly.

kinda wonder if hashtags are becoming or are already a marker of being an old person, like facebook or knowing/caring who jon stewart was or using 'lol' instead of an emoji. twitter maybe bridges that gulf, idk. the kids seem to have all moved on to vine, yikyak, kik. which is fine for facebook, their hope was 'become uncool but omnipresent default asap'.

Some friends have a name portmonteau hashtag to talk about their wedding on social media.

I almost decided to skip it right there.

even when clever joke, something about individual speech-acts taking form of mass category/corporate brand is inherently off-putting or depressing to me

I got a little handwringy about activism hashtags for a bit but eventually decided their usefulness and necessity in today's world probably outweighs the problems they raise.

but, even as i recognize that, must admit i still feel something like gut discomfort/dislike/distrust re hashtag form
as rhetorical trope & shorthand in political discourse

in some cases they seem/feel less like speech or even slogan/banner
& more just like shibboleth
