my pick would be the texas/mexico border - totally different type of south than louisiana, major sociopolitical issues of all kinds to cover, and closer to pizzo's roots. one of the second season's flaws is that aside from the industrial wasteland vibes, you get no sense of what this california really is, whereas you totally get what the louisiana of season 1 is, and i wonder if that has to do with pizzo being a transplant to cali rather than a native or longtime resident

maybe they could set it on the new mexico / mexico border and it could be focused on a teacher who, to raise money for his family after he's been diagnosed with terminal cancer, has begun making methamphetamine and selling it through one of his shady ex-students. Then he gets over his head... True Detective style.

feel like ILX could assemble a superior prospective S3 just combining all the tropes from the "In Every Cop Show Ever" thread with the "Celebrities You Never Expected to See Together" thread. Plus $50 million.

funny thing about season one was that it was originally supposed to be in the ozarks, i think?

i would, of course, be pretty psyched for a texas set season. and the southwest seems way more in his wheelhouse than a boston/newyork/philly type of thing.

Yeah. Most of the good parts have been taken by tv-shows already. Miami will be Vice. North either Killing or Fargo. Inner city problems is The Wire. New Orleans is tons of shows and films. On a reservation perhaps? Though with Pizzolatto's attitude towards 'weird spiritualism' that's probably a recipe for something very offensive. Doing 'Chinatown the tv-show' actually seemed like a good idea.

Not that there can't be more than one show about place, but True Detective relies so much on clichés that the setting has to be sorta original for it not to seem completely stale.

xps gr8080 i am one of the only people who watched the bridge season 2 (which is great and has none of season 1's flaws h8ers to the left) so yea this is basically my appeal for a version of that show to exist again

I started watching The Bridge season 2 recently on Hulu; it seemed...okay, but Franka Potente's character was very off-putting. I only got two episodes in. Should I keep going?

well, she only gets weirder, somewhat akin to anton chigurh but with known trauma. but everything else is pretty outstanding, and bizarre.

my guess would be that the men get to die their dramatic deaths while the women are the passive receptacles of their memories (and babies).

the female true detective somehow gets sidelined in the midst of all this for no good reason and the gun moll acquiesces to a clearly false promise in spectacularly dramatic and stupid fashion.

it just seemed like the reasonable course of action for MVP Bezzeredes (female, yes) to avoid the dubious end-games that Frank and Ray had set themselves to, to shitty consequence, sure. "gun moll" did put up some protest, no?

I think a pretty good season 3 could be built in/around the massive nuOil fracking boomtowns of either the Bakken fields of North Dakota or the Permian Basin of Western Texas. Good stew of greed, disposable workers, blood of the earth mythologies, institutional corruption, and lots and lots of crime.

Love the ND idea. Past two seasons have been places Nic P. has lived already, so next season will likely be a midwestern liberal-arts college.

I think the network and pizzo might be concerned about perception - accused of chasing fargo, even though this crime sounds way different from the crime in the series (or the movie)
