let's not get too excited w/ the ouches (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 6 August 2015 15:58 (ten years ago)

Man, I actually seriously would but I am going to see Nicki Minaj (AND TINASHE OMFG OMFG TINASHE MY KWEEN) tonight!!

Y Kant Max Read (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 6 August 2015 17:49 (ten years ago)

When I saw Caribou live last year I was faded af and there were so many lights and I realized that it was the closest I would ever come to seeing Underworld or Orbital in the 90's and then he played this insanely deep 14-minute take of "Sun" and I felt like I was flying

so

A+ wd 'bou again

three weeks pass...

just became obsessed with the idea of never checking a bag, not even for internation travel. this has led to an obsession with 'travel clothes' (water repellent basics, jackets with useful pockets, non-wrinkle fabrics, moisture-wicking fabrics etc.) and double-duty cosmetics/skincare.

i'm a chronic over-packer who still manages to always forget some important thing, so i feel like this might be a healthy obsession.

i swear my bag is always one of the last ones out on the carousel. plus i hate lugging it around AND this will limit vacation-shopping abilities (i brought home 15 or 16lbs of nz junkfood last year).

Just1n3 have you seen the crazy travel jacket on kickstarter that got funded for like 4939294 billion dollars or so? It had tons of pockets and doodads and novelties

1995 ball boy (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 1 September 2015 13:10 (ten years ago)

just1n3 i am flying to cleveland to visit my folks on spirit airlines, they are super cheap (roundtrip was $86!!!!! crazy) but i've been warned they are pretty grotesque about charging you for basically any bags larger than a personal bag so i am excited to pack as light as possible, i am going to see if i can just bring a tote bag and keep it super minimal

marcos, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 13:43 (ten years ago)

j., Tuesday, 1 September 2015 14:44 (ten years ago)

I totally backed that travel jacket, before I even got into this! I'm getting the hoodie.

just1n3, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 15:37 (ten years ago)

Marcos, I've looked at spirit, and they are the devil - I don't think their super cheap flights are worth the stress of flying with them. They're infamous for delays, which is just a fucking nightmare to me.

just1n3, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 15:45 (ten years ago)

yea i am little nervous and was hesitant, but

1) i'm flying by myself, not w/ my kids, so that's a relief and i can tolerate higher stress flying w/o them
2) i got an early morning flight on the way there, so hopefully delay less likely
3) i'm a little concerned about the return flight which is at the end of the day and a delay would prob mean flying out the next day, but then my folks could just pick me up and i could stay at their place

$86 was too good to pass up but we'll see how it goes

marcos, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 15:50 (ten years ago)

Yeah I agree, in your situation it's worth the risk.

Dominique, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 21:47 (ten years ago)

what are some of yr favorite carb-replacement strategies or foods that you rely on to satisfy you the way carbs did?

Y Kant Max Read (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 1 September 2015 23:28 (ten years ago)

not dominique, but i've been trying the low carb thing for a couple months, and carbs only satisfy for a short time anyway - fat and protein will fill you up and keep you satiated. i was kinda surprised how easy it's become in general, once you accept you can't have potatoes/bread/pasta/rice every day of the week (which i have always typically thought of as the base of a meal).

it's a great excuse to never cook - i just eat big simple salads with chicken and vinaigrette, maybe with a hardboiled egg or some cheese.

just1n3, Wednesday, 2 September 2015 00:03 (ten years ago)

caffeine and uh, nicotine are your basic anti-carbs

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 2 September 2015 01:26 (ten years ago)

have always had coffee in the morning, but these days just eating a lot of salad, chicken, steak on Sundays, almonds. I cook a stir fry with lots of vegetables and whatever meat I want. I never drank soda much, and basically just cutting out stuff like sandwiches, pizza, burritos, etc. It's not like I'm eating NO carbs (still eat fruit, hummus, carrots), but I'm finding there is stuff I like with small amounts.

do you have moments where you're like "please never describe women's clothing again"

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 10 October 2015 00:41 (ten years ago)

Yes if by "moments" you mean the whole book and by "women's clothing" you mean women. But other than that annoying feature I've been reading them compulsively.

Tartan jeans where?
>
getting fabric, cutting around an old dismantled pair of cord jeans, sewing while making much more fitted.
So, homemade. Not that difficult but taking more time than I'd really like.
Also would be happier if it wasn't viscose/poly material but looks like main alternative is wool.
Should have a pair in blackwatch done soon.
