I never made it out tonight due to being let down by the person I was meant to be out with and confusion as to whether I would end up a big Norma-no-mates if I went out anyway without him.

This has its advantages, as I can now stay in and anticipate Emma Pollock on The Music Show instead. Does anyone actually know if there is a plan for tomorrow? I will be in Glasgow anyway, so can someone text me if people are pubbing?

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 2 December 2005 23:42 (twenty years ago)

ooh god, my head.

ally, nick, stacey: i remember seeing you in the RAF club. IIRC ally was wearing some cool specs. but i have little recollection of anything else, so i apologise for whatever drunken nonsense i was no doubt spouting.

when you're drinking triple vodkas, you know you've had a good night.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 3 December 2005 12:43 (twenty years ago)

It was the racism I couldn't stomach.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 3 December 2005 12:55 (twenty years ago)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 3 December 2005 13:16 (twenty years ago)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 3 December 2005 13:17 (twenty years ago)

Plan tonight: partay at my house. All welcome, natch.

Ally C (Ally C), Saturday, 3 December 2005 13:56 (twenty years ago)

unnatch

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 3 December 2005 14:04 (twenty years ago)

ally, have a top one. spare a thought for me, trying to find ways of entertaining my six-year-old nephew. with a hangover.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 3 December 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

Fuck, Ally, I forgot about your birthday party. Possibly because you didn't invite me. I'm glad you all had fun on Friday.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 4 December 2005 00:30 (twenty years ago)

Oh, you did sort of invite me, if posting to ILE an hour after I left the house counts. Please accept my apologies for any aspersion-casting.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 4 December 2005 00:34 (twenty years ago)

whaddya know

there is actually an offence of "drugging"

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 4 December 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

from the "draft criminal code for scotland", which is actually an expanded version of the current common law crime of drugging - drugging someone for a laugh doesn't appear to be a crime tho

Drugging

(1) A person who administers any drug or other substance to another person

(a) with intent to stupefy that person or being reckless as to whether that person is stupefied;

(b) with intent to facilitate the commission of an offence against that person or being reckless as to whether such an offence is committed; or

(c) with intent that that person commits an offence, or being reckless as to whether that person commits an offence, is guilty of the offence of drugging.

(2) Subsection (1)(a) does not apply

(a) if the drug or substance is administered in the course of lawful medical or dental treatment; or

(b) if the other person, knowing the likely effects of the drug or substance, requested or consented to its administration.

(3) For the purpose of this section administering a drug or substance includes causing it to be taken.

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 4 December 2005 14:07 (twenty years ago)

drugging someone for a laugh doesn't appear to be a crime tho

You don't need (1) (b) or (c) on top of (a) do you? Isn't (a) enough as long as the exclusions in (2) don't apply?

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 4 December 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

oh, yeah, d'oh

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 4 December 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

this is from the attendant commentary on the code:

The offence in subsection (1)(a) does not require an intent to do anything, or recklessness as to anything, beyond stupefying the victim. The essence of the offence is a violation of the victim’s interest in freedom of action and volition.

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 4 December 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

I was half right about the current law:

At common law “drugging” would generally be treated as a form of causing real injury. There is, according to Gordon, no reported instance of a charge of drugging without an ulterior intent such as theft, but various older texts, including Alison, Macdonald and Anderson are all of the view that stupefaction without an ulterior intent would be unlawful.

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 4 December 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

So that's your drugging career over then. Oh well. Time to find a new perfect crime.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 4 December 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

or courting technique

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 4 December 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

I've just had a long and apologetic voicemail from Phil, who asked me to pass on his message to those concerned. As for me, I would like to apologise to Cozen for snuggling up to him and making him sick. And for doubting his expertise in the law.

Mädchen (Madchen), Sunday, 4 December 2005 21:18 (twenty years ago)

GLASGOW CAN FUCK OFF. HORRIBLE FUCKING PLACE.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 4 December 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

(because I work there and I don't want to have to go in tomorrow because I hate it)

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 4 December 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

(I am drunk and feeling sorry for myself)

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 4 December 2005 22:18 (twenty years ago)

snuggling up to him and making him sick

coo, the things you miss when you're at the citizens' with a six-year-old watching "charlotte's web" (which, incidentally, is astonishing and joyous and beautiful).

a painfully contrite phil asked me by e-mail to mention that he's not a complete knobhead. i can vouch for that: he really isn't. even though i get the impression he behaved like one last night.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 4 December 2005 22:43 (twenty years ago)

[sits very still and doesn't say much ever again]

stet (stet), Sunday, 4 December 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

mooro-ver: i understand i met mooro on friday and didn't realise! apologies. i really am a tool.

my addled brane just remembers lucy saying: "something someone ILX somewhere" and me going: "TOP I SHALL BUY MORE BEER" and then having to make up the round on the spot at the bar because i couldn't remember what anybody wanted.

next time i shall try to have enough functioning brain cells to actually talk, mooro.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 4 December 2005 23:57 (twenty years ago)

Oh, every time I open this thread I get more convinced it is my destiny to end up at home like a big no-mates loser whilst the rest of the world has large amounts of fun.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 5 December 2005 00:01 (twenty years ago)

go to the citz and watch "charlotte's web", ailsa! you won't regret it. whereas i do, frequently, regret consuming vast amounts of alcohol.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 5 December 2005 00:03 (twenty years ago)

best bit was turning up at the door of the RAFA club with grimly fiendish in tow, this wizened 1950s fighter ace opening the door, peering at us, and calmly saying "oho it's the tall one and the short one. Yous had better come in then".

I can't actually remember anything else, right enough. Except scoffing lots of Celebrations.

stet (stet), Monday, 5 December 2005 00:08 (twenty years ago)

Why does everyone keep apologising? You were all fun. Ta.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 5 December 2005 00:21 (twenty years ago)

I had fun. Elsewhere.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 5 December 2005 00:25 (twenty years ago)

I hurt my knee

RJG (RJG), Monday, 5 December 2005 01:27 (twenty years ago)

weird; I hurt my knee too

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 5 December 2005 10:25 (twenty years ago)

I have a big bruise on my shin, just below the knee.

stet (stet), Monday, 5 December 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

I outrank you

RJG (RJG), Monday, 5 December 2005 17:16 (twenty years ago)

mine was dislocation

RJG (RJG), Monday, 5 December 2005 17:18 (twenty years ago)

i'm actually going to be in nyc on nye. very last minute. can optimo be moved?

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 5 December 2005 18:04 (twenty years ago)

No need to apologise, Mr Fiendish. All was explained by Mädchen, with a bit of giggling & liberal use of the word "wankered".

You bought me the right drink, as well!

Mooro (Mooro), Monday, 5 December 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

there was definitely an "-ed" on the end of the "wanker"?

i'm frankly astonished by getting the right drink. wow! good to meet you, anyway: i look forward to doing it again, properly.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 5 December 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

By the way, Mooro, I don't know if anyone mentioned it but that was a nice t-shirt you were wearing.

Mädchen (Madchen), Monday, 5 December 2005 22:45 (twenty years ago)

And Grimly, I think the worst thing I said about you involved the words 'fluffy' and 'sideburns'.

Mädchen (Madchen), Monday, 5 December 2005 22:47 (twenty years ago)

girls aloud, tomorrow

I'm going to tell them I did my knee in dancing to all their songs and they will kiss me

RJG (RJG), Monday, 5 December 2005 22:51 (twenty years ago)

Mooro, were you up? You should've said...

KeefW (kmw), Monday, 5 December 2005 22:59 (twenty years ago)

RJG, hold out for a massage.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 5 December 2005 23:04 (twenty years ago)

Lauren, aww.

I have no major injuries, as yet.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 00:47 (twenty years ago)

I wanted to see girls aloud, i didn't.

jeffrey (johnson), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 00:58 (twenty years ago)

Mädchen, I seem to recall someone commenting favourably on my t-shirt, presumably because of its impeccable post-rock credentials. Possibly another member of the "wankered" group?

Mooro (Mooro), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 13:20 (twenty years ago)

glasgow's gay

bato (bato), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 13:23 (twenty years ago)

GlasGAY, as any fule no.

Mooro, that was Phil, of apology fame.

They were meant to start giving me a new bathroom today :(

stet (stet), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 18:54 (twenty years ago)

^ that wasn't me.

stet (stet), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

Hoho, you couples and your shared computer usage!
