da croupier, Monday, 27 July 2015 21:22 (ten years ago)

extremely lag∞n postings voice (slothroprhymes), Monday, 27 July 2015 21:24 (ten years ago)

i didn't say it was good

da croupier, Monday, 27 July 2015 21:28 (ten years ago)

I thought this season was supposed to be about the 'occult underbelly of LA' or some shit but other than a bird mask I've seen nothing of the sort.

akm, Monday, 27 July 2015 21:39 (ten years ago)

it's actually about Colin Farrell's kid's occult underbelly

Οὖτις, Monday, 27 July 2015 21:41 (ten years ago)

gr8080 i thought u were better than that

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 27 July 2015 22:59 (ten years ago)

waterface if u really don't know who the characters are and what they care about, you should re-watch this entire season and take notes. it's not that hard to follow along.

ian, Tuesday, 28 July 2015 00:34 (ten years ago)

just caught this ep again and it kinda rules. pretty psyched for final 2 episodes.

ryan, Tuesday, 28 July 2015 04:03 (ten years ago)

woke up crazy early and decided to await dawn by watching the latest ep. everybody otm that in the "dead girl town" context of current tv this still comes off semi-prestige, though i still think the stuntcasting will get less rather than more impressive as it goes on (though it's win-win if i'm wrong about the size of the stars or the quality of future seasons). i also think in the "dead girl town" context of current tv this comes off as pretty mundane, enough that it's still slightly farcical that it's named True Detective even if i respect people finding it intriguing/watchable (assuming they respect that i'll wind up watching at least two seasons of hemlock grove). on the fence about seeing the last two episodes, not bloody likely i'll watch 2-5. nothing about the episode or this thread makes me think i actually missed anything.

da croupier, Tuesday, 28 July 2015 12:54 (ten years ago)

You didn't, really. Mostly red herrings and blue balls.

something totally new, it’s the AOR of the twenty first century (tipsy mothra), Tuesday, 28 July 2015 13:48 (ten years ago)

I'm looking at Velcoro's trashed apartment thinking: is this his old apartment or his new apartment? Didn't he get 60 days' notice a few episodes ago, before it jumped forward 66 days?

this is like a gift to you, ryan

j., Tuesday, 28 July 2015 15:43 (ten years ago)

last two eps should be 120 minutes of velcoro painstakingly rebuilding his model airplanes

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 28 July 2015 15:49 (ten years ago)

this is like a gift to you, ryan

lol. Smiley should hand out Lonestars tho.

ryan, Tuesday, 28 July 2015 15:59 (ten years ago)

Life works in such contradictions, you know? Don’t get me wrong, I really want everything I do to be appreciated, to find an audience, I want people to think I’m good at what I do, I want to feel good at what I do. We all have a self-worth in our lives that unfortunately and by virtue of being part of human existence we look outside ourselves and see how we’re doing with our peers. So, I’m there very much. But at the same time, I don’t relate to the importance of it all with the depth that I used to—when I used to say I didn’t care about it. When I used to go, “I don’t care about any of it.” I really cared then. I just didn’t know how to acknowledge it or express my caring. I didn’t understand it. Now, I still care, but I care less really. And it’s freed me up. That’s the irony, it’s freed me up.

Farrell should play Maron on a dark, realistic reboot of Maron.

... (Eazy), Tuesday, 28 July 2015 16:08 (ten years ago)

farrell is dope

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 28 July 2015 16:52 (ten years ago)

I was thinking the other day, they should have just started this season from the shootout episode. like, 90% of everything in the first half seems p useless now.

i like the "secret team of burned out police" angle

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 28 July 2015 16:56 (ten years ago)

need to see kitsch on the bike tho

gr8080, Tuesday, 28 July 2015 17:05 (ten years ago)

otm. the backstory should just scroll in text at the beginning of every episode a la Star Wars. xp

rip van wanko, Tuesday, 28 July 2015 17:06 (ten years ago)

kitsch shd always be on the bike, occasionally they cut to him, face flapping

lag∞n, Tuesday, 28 July 2015 17:07 (ten years ago)

kitsch has had like 10 lines this whole season

Spottie, Tuesday, 28 July 2015 17:10 (ten years ago)

Ive watched this every week and i still don't know any names or what is happening tbf. i guess the whole thing is trying to figure out who killed casper? idk, idc.

Spottie, Tuesday, 28 July 2015 17:12 (ten years ago)

mccadams hates her dad
farrell's a fake dad
kitsch is a dad-to-be but is secretly gay
vaughn is trying to become a dad but can't

gr8080, Tuesday, 28 July 2015 17:16 (ten years ago)

i am the true dadtective

gr8080, Tuesday, 28 July 2015 17:16 (ten years ago)

nah the case is never the point

afaik the burning questions are:
• what happened at the commune?
• who is the velcoro boy's father?
• why and how is frank getting shafted?
• did tim riggins solicit lindsay lohan? what happened to woodrugh before he came home?
• how are these specific historical burdens expressed in l'affaire caspere?
• will any of these characters go through a near-death experience and find the light?

that was enough coke to kill a horse btw

rip van wanko, Thursday, 30 July 2015 20:02 (ten years ago)

the terrible music that played throughout the storming the orgy sequence reminded me of Body Heat

let's not get too excited w/ the ouches (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 30 July 2015 20:12 (ten years ago)

orgy music was a hilight of the season imo

gr8080, Thursday, 30 July 2015 23:26 (ten years ago)

you can't puke molly out of your bloodstream. this really annoyed me.

But I liked the orgy music. Loved the pulpy final shot. It's so stupid that he drives a charger but it's stupid in an awesome way.

it was a comically large pile of cocaine for one man

gr8080, Friday, 31 July 2015 14:43 (ten years ago)

he got the "Don Simpson" from his dealer

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 31 July 2015 15:24 (ten years ago)

What CD is Ray playing during the cocaine vacuuming scene?

Brad C., Friday, 31 July 2015 15:26 (ten years ago)

New York Dolls - Human Being

Number None, Friday, 31 July 2015 15:39 (ten years ago)

i get so distracted by the diagetic use of music that strikes me as hipper than the scene requires. That reminded me of the scene in "Looper" where Richard & Linda Thompson is playing in a massage parlor IN 2044

da croupier, Friday, 31 July 2015 15:59 (ten years ago)

yeah wouldn't ray be listening to staind or?
