I would still bet that Apple's smartwatch is the best and most user-friendly

I am not quite to an "it's good" endorsement

Upright Mammal (mh), Friday, 24 July 2015 14:41 (ten years ago)

If you're already heavily invested into the apple ecosystem, then yes, it's going to be the best.

Jeff, Friday, 24 July 2015 14:44 (ten years ago)

I just love the cycle of bigger smartphones that keep growing until they maximize practical screen size and then introducing a tiny little screen for your wrist that accesses your now giant cell phone. Eventually phones will grow to the size of computers, the watch will grow to the size of current phones, and they'll have to introduce something small to access your watch and phone and computer.

Apple contact lens.

funny thing about the watch is it's such a limited, semi-sealed system right now. there are a bunch of applications that use it, but I haven't seen many that are introducing brave new interaction schemes or anything

so websites are writing doofy articles like "whoa did you know the side button can do all these things"

tbh the best part of it is you can ignore it 99% of the time and it's there passively monitoring and reacting

Upright Mammal (mh), Friday, 24 July 2015 19:22 (ten years ago)

if you could (can?) use it for public transit passes it would be nice since I don't want to have my phone super easily accessible on the metro etc, and I've had my card pickpocketed before too

otoh I could just get pants with a pocket zipper

I hate watches

droit au butt (Euler), Friday, 24 July 2015 19:27 (ten years ago)

yeah the payment/card stuff is super easy, double-click the button and hold it up and away you go

Upright Mammal (mh), Friday, 24 July 2015 19:30 (ten years ago)

brb going to go buy a soda that way

Upright Mammal (mh), Friday, 24 July 2015 19:30 (ten years ago)

best argument against it is prob how joyfully ppl gave up their regular watches once they acquired a cell phone

what is the feeling on the iphone lineup after september? is it going to be all enormous phones? wondering if i should get a 5s

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 27 July 2015 19:39 (ten years ago)

decent amount of speculation that there will be an update to the 5/5S form factor. that's what i'm hoping for.

it's true though, no one wants to use a stylus for all interaction, but having no native stylus option for all the shit you need one for is less than optimal

the future of television is apps the future of television is apps the future of television is apps the future of television is apps

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 17:55 (ten years ago)

yeah, that set off major alarms in my head

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 17:57 (ten years ago)

I wonder if the new Apple TV is going to have an Amazon video app

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:00 (ten years ago)

maybe they'll do this voice search thing better than Amazon but it was pretty useless on the Fire TV

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:00 (ten years ago)

idk, for me that's the present?

I use sling tv (the dish network-over-internet service), hulu, netflix, amazon prime, youtube, plex, and on very rare occasions broadcast television

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:01 (ten years ago)

I'd imagine all the companies that have video streaming apps on iPhone/iPad will just submit a version for the new Apple TV box

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:01 (ten years ago)

oooh the 3D effect on the artwork as I move around

going to be great for getting high and making movie posters dance

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:03 (ten years ago)

oh yeah, and HBO Now, forgot that one

about 2/3 of those are already on Apple TV but the experience is mediocre compared to the (Amazon) Fire TV or even just the iPad version

main prob is Apple TV is severely underpowered

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:03 (ten years ago)

yeah just that most new TVs already have apps for all that xxp

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:04 (ten years ago)

I don't want all that shit baked into my tv! I think it might be a mindset thing, but few people do, since televisions work well as a dumb screen and no one wants to replace the whole tv when you can upgrade a little box instead

apple sure doesn't want to sell a full tv, still

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:06 (ten years ago)

I mean, arguably they do sell televisions since most kids (and some adults I know) don't use an actual television and just have an iMac or tablet or w/e

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:07 (ten years ago)

as an owner of a top of the line tivo, all this universal search / predictive content / apps / content not network focus stuff is what I've been doing for the past two years
i recommend it highly

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:07 (ten years ago)

but i don't need ANOTHER set top box doing the same thing

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:08 (ten years ago)

even the cheap TV i have gets apps and what do those apps do other then take you to content that you then just watch anyways like a normal TV xxp

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:13 (ten years ago)

the UI is maybe not the best but i'm not watching that

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:14 (ten years ago)

I was using a Roku til it crapped out, then a Fire TV and now an XBox One. I do miss iTunes access and if I were an iTunes Music subscriber I'd definitely add one of these, but I don't know that "rent movies on iTunes instead of Amazon" is a $100 selling point.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:14 (ten years ago)

wait, multiplayer crossy road eh? okay, i'll give you 250 dollars then

Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 9 September 2015 18:14 (ten years ago)

lol games yo
